Joe, I, actually, saw you at Rainbow Point. Charlotte and I drove through to see how many scopes were up. I plan on going to the Agua Canyon overlook, tonight. It appears to be a great place to set up. Very few trees, unlike Rainbow Point. Ponderosa Canyon overlook seems promising, also. Dave On Jul 2, 2011, at 10:34 AM, Joe Bauman wrote:
Hi Dave, I'm sorry I missed you. When I wrote I was planning to stop on one of the turnouts before Rainbow Point because I was worried that the road might be too dangerous to drive at evening or morning, because of its curves and wildlife. But Dave Bernson reassured me that it's not bad, and I ended up going to the point after all. The night was spectacular I had so much trouble with stupid stuff (like alignment, leveling, then realignment and releveling) that I'm glad I didn't have any more witnesses to my blunders than I had! Best wishes, Joe

Joe,
Maybe I’ll see you along the road to Rainbow Point. I’ll look for the glamour shot setup.

Hi Dave, This is a tough one to work out logistically because I'm not sure where I'll be going, but you certainly are welcome. I'm not sure where that will be because I want to stop somewhere along to road to Rainbow Point. If you can find me at the Star-be-que we can make plans. We'll also be stopping at the Ruby's Inn campground to get two friends, a husband and wife. She's taking a film class at the U. and is making a documentary about me, and would like to get some pics of setting up. But that shouldn't be a problem. Best wishes, Joe

Joe,
Where are you doing your imaging tonight? I’m here at the ALCON festivities and would like to take some spectrographs of various stars. If it’s OK, could I tag along with you? I could use some imaging tips. If you prefer to be alone, believe me, I understand.

Hi Steve, Thank you for your kindness! I'm not sure if I can get a blog off today because I might be pretty busy. I was up until 2 a.m. last night/this morning working the public star party and then taking down my gear, packing it, driving back to our room at Ruby's Inn. Fascinating folks from all over the world were lined up at our scopes. The night got darker and darker and the Milky Way shone brighter -- at last, as I was stowing stuff, the sky was inky black and the Milky Way was brilliant! I hope to do some imaging tonight, not at the public star party. -- Joe
