Well, I have one better. For an extra charge we can have them holstered in the arm pit of a sixth grader. One day's cost of $10.00 will guarantee a season's worth of smell detection. On Tue, Nov 8, 2011 at 5:20 PM, Steve Fisher <iotacass1@hotmail.com> wrote:
Ok, I never would have brought this up. Especially on Utah Astronomy but since you started us down this path. Most of you are old enough to remember "five day deodorant pads" Honestly now, did you think you wore them for five days or was that just me?

And with that Rodger has invented an improvement to the green laser, here's how it could be marketed:
Tired of dropping your green laser while showing the night sky and not being able to find it in the dark? INTRODUCING THE LOCATION BY SMELL DEVICE, simply insert your laser into our handy holster which will hold the device right in your pits. Before long your laser is treated sufficiently to allow you to sniff it out in the dark. All without needing to go white and destroy your dark adaptation! If you order now, you'll get two holsters for the price of one and you can treat yours and a friend's laser both at the same time! Your friend will be delighted you got this to help him out!!
To bad Billy Mays is not still with us to tele-market this...

Mat,
I have tried putting my green laser pointer under my arm pit to keep it warm. After I have done this, it doesn't look any brighter but it sure does look greener!

I've found that if I don't keep my 5mw green laser warm, you can't see the beam much at all. If I keep it up the sleeve of my coat right against my arm between uses, then it works really well.

Anyone remember the impromptu tests we did at SPOC a few years ago? Most of the cheapies weren't even visible unless you were dead-on-axis, standing right next to the laser. Not much good in a crowd. In very transparent air with little water vapor or suspended dust, you couldn't see a thing. The 20mW units fared much better.
