Joan, we're still home. Not leaving until midnight, headed for somewhere between Rigby and Rexburg. C. On Sun, Aug 20, 2017 at 3:40 PM, Joan Carman <jcarman6@q.com> wrote:
Well, Well, I got this post, the first from Utah-Astronomy for months. Chuck, where are you?

LOL, he just texted me a picture of him drinking Coronas (for the corona, groan) so he's apparently having a good time!
I'm getting nervous. That countdown clock on Cloudy Nights isn't helping.
Weather reports are looking much better than they were just two days ago, but there are reports of smoke from wildfires probably obscuring the view somewhat on the path of totality.

I hope he's not allergic to alfalfa.
I wondered about gas. My truck has a pretty big tank but I'm planning on bringing a little extra.

Another thing to note: I have had reports that some towns are already out of fuel. We are taking a sub-compact car and five extra gallons of gas, which gives us sufficient fuel for the full round-trip, plus a 90 mile reserve. We don't plan on needing fuel while in Idaho.

We are leaving between midnight and 1 AM, headed for the Thornton, ID area. Will arrive before dawn. If we can't find a good spot near Thornton (very close to centerline), we could end up anywhere between Rigby and Rexburg. Mike Clements is already camped-out in an alfalfa field near Rigby.
We are leaving immediately after totality, in an attempt to beat the southbound traffic home. Wife has to work early Tuesday morning.
I would expect a fair amount of northbound traffic starting around sunup. Glad it's on a weekday, would have been much worse on a weekend.
