DSS is Deep Sky Stacker if you've not heard of it. It is a great free solution for DSO DSLR work. Iris is also a good solution. I usually do my subtraction in iris, then my registration in Registar. For some reason Registar seems to deal with getting the photos aligned better and pumps out images with less noise in them. I used Deep Sky Stacker for about a year, then switched to Iris, and then Registar. Iris and DSS can do everything from subtraction, to stacking. Registar is only for registration and stacking. I'm looking for stacking software the doesn't come bundled with camera and telescope control software. I leave my PC at home and just mount my DSLR with a short lense on a minimalist tracking device without any guide telescope. There are some popular packages for the video files that planet photographers use but not for DSO still photography.
Any sugestions would be appreciated.
