If someone wrote an article about the SPOC Complex, There is a good chance I could get it published in the Astro Leagues Reflector, they did run our story about The Bryce Astro Festival.
As I recall there was some interest in SPOC when we held their annual conference, unfortunately it was not completely functioning at that time. I think SLAS is generally pretty low key, perhaps thats why our efforts go unnoticed in the general astronomical society community. Erik We had a short exchange recently in this forum about whether or not SLAS
deserved some kind of recognition for our extensive public star party schedule. I know my memory is somewhat faulty, but I recall that someone suggested that perhaps we didn't deserve any special recognition. I don't remember who or why that absurd (and rather offensive) notion was offered. Most clubs about which I have heard or read offer perhaps ONE annual public star party. I find that kind of "effort" laughable when compared to what SLAS does.
Ann, the short answer as far as I know is that there has never been any special recognition for SLAS and/or the observatory complex in any national astronomy or science journal, either amateur or professional, and I don't think that anyone has ever submitted an article as you suggest. OK, that wasn't a short answer - the short answer is, "No".
Troy, contrary to the speculation recently offered regarding the source of certain splashing noises at night at SPOC, I always thought that they were the mosquitoes dumping cargo into the lake that they couldn't quite carry off - cats, dogs, small children...

It is a lovely picture of our observatory. Have we ever done a story on it and submitted it to magazines with pictures attached? Our public star party schedule is rivaled by none, I bet.

Is there fish in the lake there at SPOC? It would be nice to do some fishing first and then star gazing later.
