Fifteen years ago, Eric and I saw NGC 7000 with the naked-eye clearly from SPOC. That feat is not possible from there, anymore. As an outreach facility, SPOC has lots of life left, but I think that we are looking at about the last useful decade in that location. Might be a good idea to put a moratorium on any new construction there, save the new scopes for a better location. The club can put together a nice fund for the move, in the next ten years, but only with resolve from the board and membership. I'd hate to see it die before I do. Noticed the announcement and googled the location. Erda is substantially south of SPOC by a number of miles. Yes it will be well-lit at night, but considering the distance (as the crow flies) it might not seriously impact SPOC. There is already a substantial light bump from Tooele. But yes, light pollution in the area will only continue to grow.
