I see nothing wrong with an occasional ramble into other topics. After all, we're not professional astronomers -- we're folks with a common interest, but it would be stifling to talk about nothing but that interest. As a long-time fighter for freedom of information in my career as a reporter (which included filing actions with both the state and federal governments), I think freedom of speech is so important that we should stick up for it. We should be allowed to have friendly chats about all sorts of topics. Let's not worry about quibbles, and let's just put "OT" in the subject line when we drift off the main track. Then anyone who isn't interested in non-astronomy topics can simply delete the comment without reading it. -- Joe ________________________________ From: Steve Fisher <iotacass1@hotmail.com> To: utah-astronomy@mailman.xmission.com Sent: Monday, November 14, 2011 5:31 PM Subject: Re: [Utah-astronomy] Discussions Sorry, Larry! I believe you are incorrect on an item or two. The Utah Astronomy List and the Salt Lake Astronomical Society are not the same. They are "different". We may have many of the same faces and share a common interest but that is it. I may be corrected once the Admin gets back from his flight but the Utah Astronomy mailing list is in no way the "social network of and for the club". I will be the first to admit that I can and have been taken off topic but I try to keep in mind that this is not the club and it is simply used to discuss astronomy. It is my understanding that Daniel is correct. I even tried to get back on track by indicating how many Spudnuts it takes to purchase a new telescope. (that didn't work) This list is for the discussion of astronomy and occasionally we get "off topic". Fortunately there are people like Daniel and Patrick to guide us back.
