The invitation has been sent. He was easy to find, the correct Thorne at Caltech, on the internet. The internet is wonderful. No mention of old stomping grounds, just a straight forward invite from kindred spirits (SLAS). Don't know when or if I will get a response, but I'm willing to wade out into the waters :). Have offered hotel and travel expenses paid by SLAS :). IF, and that's a big if, he agrees and something can be arranged, everyone on this board is welcome to attend the meeting, as it is free :) Keep y'all posted on this one. BTW February 17th, SLAS has Ben Bromley from the University of Utah coming to talk about planet formation. It's free to all too. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Chuck Hards" <chuck.hards@gmail.com> To: "Utah Astronomy" <utah-astronomy@mailman.xmission.com> Sent: Saturday, February 13, 2016 6:43:08 PM Subject: Re: [Utah-astronomy] Gravitational Waves I'm going from memory here, but I seem to recall that Dr. Thorne was born into an LDS family, and as a young man broke away from the church, causing quite a bit of family distress. I think he ended up disowning the church and family members who thought he made a bad decision. You might have a tough row to hoe getting him back to Utah, but good luck- he would be an excellent guest speaker, for sure. _______________________________________________ Utah-Astronomy mailing list http://mailman.xmission.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/utah-astronomy Send messages to the list to Utah-Astronomy@mailman.xmission.com The Utah-Astronomy mailing list is not affiliated with any astronomy club.
