Kurt, up until about T-10 minutes, Mark was slewing around the sky, and Bruce and I did peek at M-51 for a few minutes. I noticed some H-II regions but didn't notice anything obviously stellar. The view was pretty darn good, I must admit I would have felt like Lord Rosse had I been wearing buckled shoes. C. --- Canopus56 <canopus56@yahoo.com> wrote:

Kurt, were you at SPOC Sunday night? Did you see M51 in the 32"?
Chuck, I was, but Grim Scope stayed on Comet 9P till I left about 12:45 am. Maybe Patrick or Mark slewed over there after everyone left. No reports from Patrick or Mark.
Ironically, Mark and Bruce were testing the 32" on the night after the discovery (before ICC circular came out). I happened to be out at SPOC that night. They invited me in for about 5 minutes of viewing M51. Of course, I was too busy "oouing" and "aying" from being able to see some distinct arm structure in M51 for the first time and probably blew right past the SN.
