UFO LZ? (sorta OT)

After the KSL story on the arrows aired I got a tip from a viewer about a possible arrow near the north shore of the Great Salt Lake. So earlier today I few to the coordinates he provided (+41° 42' 29.81", -112° 55' 11.10"). I did not find an arrow but I did find a huge (possibly concrete) circle with 4 arms sticking out pointing to each of the cardinal points of the compass. Must be some sort of UFO landing site as nearby I found a lonely obelisk sticking high in the sky. I flew close to that in hopes of seeing several apes running around it throwing bones in the air... I have studying the Cal Sky map and info. I think the 4-something p.m. transit will not be visible from SLC. It will be close to the sun but will not cross it. A transit that does cross the sun happens after 8 p.m. and I don't think we will be able to see the sun at that time. But still well above the horizon. Of course looking through that much air (about 3 times as much as at the zenith) wont exactly help with resolution. ISS sun crossing -- questions and invitation

Hi Friends, I have a few questions. How wide is the path? Assuming it's fairly wide, does the map just indicate the centerline? Is there a significant difference in estimates of the path? If so, is there a convenient spot that is good regardless of which path is right? Do we know the precise tine? Will the sun's altitude be high enough for a good picture? And finally, if it is going to be feasible to photograph it, would anybody like to meet Cory and me at some convenient place? Thanks, Joe

ISS to cross the Sun

I just received a message from CalSky indicating ISS will transit the Sun this coming Friday at 16h52m43s MDT as seen from along a line stretching from here at SPOC, across the north end of Salt Lake International and on into the south end of Bountiful. Duration is predicted to be only 2.91s so don't blink. patrick
