Estate Telescope Sale

Mr. Garrett contacted me as President of the Salt Lake Astronomical Society and I am posting his e-mail to this board. Contact him directly if you are interested in anything he has to sell. I checked and Mr. Garrett senior was not a member of SLAS. That is just a point of interest. Its just a little sad/surprising to find someone so well-equipment not affiliated (maybe the Ogden Club??) I also told Lewis about KSL.com, Cloudy Nights and Astromart. If anyone can think of any other options to help him liquidate these assets, let him know. Hello, My father who was an avid amateur astronomer recently passed away. As executor of his estate, I am looking for some assistance in selling his equipment. He had a Mead LX 200 16 inch SCT including mount and tripod. He also had a backyard observatory with a large Takahashi refractory scope on a pier mount and CCD imaging camera. He also owned a 25% interest in a remotely accessible mountain observatory in New Mexico. I am writing to ask if you have any advice on how best to sell this equipment. I see a classified ad section on your website but there does not seem to be much activity there. I would like to target our efforts towards people who know what this equipment is. Mizar

Aloha I just sent an email to Patrick Wiggins in SLC about an observation of Mizar Friday night. Here is what I wrote > > We did a star party for our STEM Conference here in Hawaii and I was showing one of the attending students a double star, Mizar and Alcor. But what was weird was that Mizar was a double and I was seeing it. But that wasn't possible since I was using 100mm binos at 43X and the separation is only .5" and at about 220*. What I saw was at about 155* and a separation of 3' (estimate) and I had two other very good observers look and check charts and Sky Safari, nothing there. If your out tonite, take a look at Mizar and see if there's a star?? near it that's not on star charts. This observation has us puzzled. Vernon site (WAS: Re: Observing at Pit n Pole)

Jay, can you refresh my memory on directions to the Vernon site? Don't you have it posted somewhere? My wife and I took a Sunday drive yesterday to get out of the house for a while, looped around the Oquirrhs, got down that way, only a few miles from Vernon. I think it might be about the same drive for me as it is to Lakeside, and a good compromise for friends living in Utah county to meet at a relatively dark site. My only concern was the large number of ORVs and campers in the area. There was a low-level dust layer that covered hundreds of square miles in the afternoon. Does the dust settle at night? Observing at Pit n Pole

I will be observing out at the Pit n Pole unless that site is occupied. Then I'll probably move to Vernon but it won't be late. I need to be home in bed by 2:00 or 3:00a.m. as I have a commitment at 9:00a.m. I have to fulfill. Feel free to join me.
