Interesting on the B-29, it is named "Haggerty's Hag"... but was not the original "Haggerty's Hag", as the original did not survive WW II. We are next in line to get all of the restoration equipment that was used to restore the Enola Gay... so anyone wanting to get up close and personal with the Super Fort... come join us. Joe, I don't have a Kindle or I would have downloaded it. At $3 it's a steal. I did "look inside" and read about Macintosh, the blacksmith. I enjoyed the bio. Well written and entertaining. At least I think so. I would love to talk to you about the Battle of Saratoga, expecially the first engagement at Stillwater. I have an ancestor, Daniel Clark, a captain who died there. Actually, he was shot twice and survived, at least long enough to be transported to Vermont where his family was and died there. I got me a personal "source" for information on that battle :) You - if you haven't figure it out lol

SLAS board meeting this evening

A reminder that SLAS's board of directors will be meeting this evening (Wednesday) in the private meeting room of the Denny's restaurant at 250 W 500 S in SLC starting at 6:30 p.m. Note the start time of this and all SLAS board meetings this year is 6:30 (moved up an hour from the former 7:30). The meeting is open to all. patrick (Joe should bring his new book to show.)

Eclipse Festival

Just for Joe "the path of annular totality " sheesh picky picky picky. ;-) Still SLC is outside the limit. Although, an annular isn't nearly as exciting as a full eclipse, Joe is probably spot on with how many will actually go south to see the whole event. Still, with it in my "back yard" I want to see the whole thing. Photo ops are a bonus.

I'm thinking that Joan may be right on the centerline issue. After all, if you are on the centerline, you can (and will) get off-center shots, too. Decisions, decisions... I'm thinking about the possibility of stereo pairs. If some of you have identical cameras & lenses and are spaced out a couple of dozen miles along the eclipse track, it might yield some cool results. Identical rigs are not mandatory, thanks to PhotoShop and similar image manipulation software, but it makes the job a lot easier and produces better results if they are. An eclipse is also a terrific event for a time-lapse animation. Because there is no totality, you won't have to remove a filter and radically alter your exposures, as you must for a total solar eclipse.

Most memorable Astornomy viewing experience

6th Grade, Granger Elementary (where Costco is now), spring 1958. After a parent-teacher conference, our teacher, Kirk Wood, set up his home-made refractor for those of us who wanted to stay a while longer, and he showed us Jupiter with its moons. I was hooked! It took me almost 30 years before I could buy my own scope, but I stayed interested all those years, and enjoy sharing the stars with elementary kids whenever I am can. Raeburn G. Kennard
