I probably shouldn't do this, but here goes. I have some (I hope) constructive criticism for posting to this list, specifically replying to messages on this list. I notice that many who reply to the list write only a sentance or two in their message, which is great. Short and sweet. The problem is that the message also quotes the 40 line original message. If I might make a suggestion, please delete all of the message that you are replying to, except the specific parts that concern you. If you are replying to many parts of the message thats fine, but simply leaving in the whole message for no reason takes up bandwidth and can make your reply hard to read, expecially if you get the list in the digest form, which I do. The digest version can be very confusing at times. It should only take a few moments to do this. Please don't assume that I am in any way angry. I get the list in digest form to ease my already painful inbox experience. I just want to make it a little easier and faster to read. thanks dave

At the SLAS meeting last night, the pre-meeting "bull session" was extended to allow late comers to vote in the yearly BOD elections, so unfortunately time ran out and there was no laser test. Club officers might have assumed that the test would be performed outdoors in the parking lot after the meeting, but since it was raining steadily after the meeting, and the test actually has some structure to it, that was not possible. I am very sorry to have troubled anyone who brought a laser or was expecting a demonstration/test and was disappointed, but thanks for your time and interest. Please do not hold it against anyone, chalk it up to miscommunication. It wasn't even formally on the agenda. If possible, I'd like to try it again, but only if it is formally on the meeting agenda. I think in addition to indoor tests, it should be repeated outdoors in relative darkness (on a dry night), perhaps at SPOC one evening. It is designed as a subjective poll for all in attendance to vote on, not merely a casual "mine is brighter than yours" challenge. SLAS meeting- green laser

Some of you know that my mother had heart-valve-replacement surgery a week ago. She has been at home for the last couple of days recovering, but just this afternoon was taken back to the hospital with possible complications. As of now I am not certain that I will be able to attend the meeting tonight, unfortunately. I would appreciate it if someone could explain my absence at the meeting if I don't make it. Compared to Patrick and a host of others, I haven't done squat. I was merely ribbing Patrick a little. He needs it now and then to stay centered and on track. ;) The Clark tube, which will eventually ride atop the Clark pier, was built by Alvin C. Clark and Sons of Cambridge Mass in 1915. I have posted some images of the original rear focuser mounting plate and some of the machining which will adapt Patricks focuser and the original 9" eye to the Clark tube. It will be a great looking piece when finished. I need to get some large MEADE stickers to plaster all over it when it's finished though.
