I'm not seeing 3.5.105 on source support site (3.5.100 is the latest listed there) ; is it not officially released yet? Second - I know they don't recommend running conflicting versions of software. Your DSP and NMC are TCS4.5 but your ARC is pre-TCS4.0. I would get your ARC up to 5.3.3. Third - according to Source-T, there is no 3.5.107 - .105 is the latest. Hope that helps, Joel -----Original Message----- From: Terry Kennedy [mailto:terry@olypen.com] Sent: Monday, September 23, 2002 1:22 PM To: usr-tc@mailman.xmission.com Subject: [USR-TC] 3.5.105 Any one seen rebooting problems with the 3.5.105 code? We have been running it for a week. This morning I have watched card after card reboot for no apparent reason. Not good. Is this something 3.5.107 fixed? Thanks, engineering release. Any code with 3 digits on the end is an engineering release. -- Lewis Bergman Texas Communications 4309 Maple St. Abilene, TX 79602-8044 915-695-6962 ext 115
3Com's numbering scheme seems strange to me (among other policies). Why would 3.5.105 be a later version than 3.5.12? It would seem that 3.5.12 would be followed by 3.5.121 then 3.5.122 then finally 3.5.13 when there was a more major revision. It would seem that .105 would be half way between 3.5.10 and 3.5.11? Good question. The answer is detailed at length at: http://totalservice.commworks.com/Matrixs/2002.cfm Short answer: the CCC field (AAA.BBB.CCC) uses 0-99 for general releases and beta releases. 100-199 is for post-release Emergency Releases or Service Releases. 200-255 is test or debug code (I haven't seen any of these). The old versioning (pre-2002) is detailed at http://totalservice.commworks.com/Matrixs/Pre-2002.cfm The old versioning was much more confusing. Emergency releases counted down (newer is a lower number) in the CCC field, while general releases counted up in that field (higher is newer). Randy Cosby Vice President InfoWest, Inc. Thank you. That's a good explanation. However, I don't really understand how one would know inherently that version 3.5.105 was later than 3.5.12 without asking 3Com what order they come in. I read the page at the URL you suggest, so I presume 3.5.105 would be the 5th "Emergency Release or Service Release" build of the 3.5 software, but how is one to know that this is after 3.5.12 rather than before it? Good question. I believe they freeze at the "release" version (3.5.12 in this case) and don't issue any more in that track. If they were in a beta on the 3.5 track, they would not be issuing ER releases. So, everything after the 3.5 release is going to be in the 100's. At least that's how I understand it. Having used 3.5.100, I recommend you don't touch it with a 10 foot pole. Get 3.5.105. Randy
