I have decided to change from static routing on my router to letting my TC's tell my router how to route what they have. Anyone have any real gotcha's on OSPF? I really know nothing of OSPF but am in the middle of reading up on it now. My router manufacturer suggested I use it over RIP. I have gone through the steps I found at the knowledge base and all seems to be ready although I have not done the crypto keys yet. This is a spare router card so it isn't plugged into the network as yet. Lewis, We've been using our TCR with OSPF since purchasing it 3 years or so ago. Once configured, the only problem we've had with it is if there is a network outage that disrupts OSPF sessions (ie, core router going out for coffee), we generally have to powercycle the TCR in order to get its OSPF session established again. Provided things are working smoothly though, it doesn't make a sound. However, in doing a network reconfiguration (that required me to learn a lot more than I really wanted to with TCR OSPF configuration) I did stumble into the 'so obvious I never noticed it before' option of 'disable ospf' then 'enable ospf' - I haven't had the TCR lose it's OSPF session so I could test whether these commands will restore it without the previously mentioned power cycle, but hopefully it will. General configuration was a bit of a pain as one incorrect toggle will keep the TCR from seeing the rest of the OSPF group. 'list ospf neighbor' is fairly useful to see whether it's talking yet or not. Anything else I can help with, just ask. We've attempted to use OSPF against cisco routers for a large (8 full DS3 carrying chassis) dialup pool, using TCS 4.3 and eventually gave up and moved to RIPv2. There are a few quicks / flaws with the OSPF implimenation that don't outright break routing but produce intermitant problems for individual customers. If you can, look at RIPv2, it's simple to setup and has been ROCK SOLID for us so far. Joshua Coombs On Thu, Apr 24, 2003 at 12:50:44PM -0500, Lewis Bergman wrote:
