Thanks Mike I think those are Broadcom modems like the Gateway GTW v.92 modems.
Gateway says some GTW v.92 modems fail to drop back properly from v.92 during negotiations. The fix may be as simple as forcing v.90 - +MS=v90 is supposed to work but I have seen several direct register setting init scripts. In my own experience, Windows can screw up something as simple as a telephone number change. Many of my problems go away when I delete all the old connections (sometimes as rashly as deleting the the branch in the registry). Several other machines were found with several hooks such as AOL, Norton, McAfee, Window Washer, AdSubtract, ... Sometimes cleaning these up helps. Often I simply replace the modems with $10 Lucent v.92 modems and the problem goes away. In my experience TC chassis, especially old ones, are as kind to the range of modems as anything. Jim Tarvid
