RE: [USR-TC] Older ARC Upgrade problem
Try Dip #5. Docs say reserved, but I believe I've gotten past that symptom with that Dip switch. Worth a try... Maybe this is a dumb question, but at that point in the boot process doesn't the loader code hand control over to the kernel to keep talking to the console port? Any chance at all there's a speed mismatch? What are the LEDs doing on the unit?

I've recently gotten a hold of and older chassis and the console port (after booting) shows the bootloader version, then "Kernel Loading.. OK" then it stops.
I tried to download 4.1.59 to it via the console port and it seemed to work (by using the AT{ZF} command after the bootloader prompt) and it formatted the flash, uncompressed some files and rebooted... right back to the "Kernel Loading... OK" prompt.
Dip switched 1,2 are on and the rest are off. This originally had 2x 48VDC PSA/PSUs but since I don't have that voltage available at my office I took them out and put in a single 70A 120VAC PS with only the NMC, ARC and 2 DSPs.... could the different PS have anything to do with it?
Any ideas???

Does anyone know how to DUMP a current configuration from a HiperArc to a file so that it can be edited and then reloaded? I am going to need to re- number my entire network and have 3 hiperArcs that will require changes. Having just gone through a renumber, I can say that it would probably be just as easy to use the 2nd ethernet port and setup your new network on that, create new pools and off you go. If you are using OSPF you will need to create new send policies etc, but it isn't to hard to make the transition pretty seamless. - Mike ------------------------------------------------ Rock Island Communications, Inc. Speaking of 2nd ethernet port, I was wondering what are people using that 2'nd port for? Does it need to be in a separate subnet from the other port?
The ARC is a ROUTER, so you must set things up as a router. -- Paul Farber Farber Technology farber@admin.f-tech.net Ph 570-628-5303 Fax 570-628-5545 On Tue, 29 Oct 2002, Antonio Querubin wrote:

Uh yeah, but as you're probably aware, some routers allow multiple 'contexts' and can have multiple ports in the same subnet. I'm wondering if there's a way to make the HiPerARC do something similar.
Like the 'secondary' command on the cisco or IP aliasing in UNIX? -- Paul Farber Farber Technology farber@admin.f-tech.net Ph 570-628-5303 Fax 570-628-5545 On Tue, 29 Oct 2002, Antonio Querubin wrote:

Yeah kind of like IP aliasing. I don't see anything like it in the ARC CLI but maybe I'm just looking in the wrong place. If one tries to force another ip address onto the same interface, even when it's a different subnet from the one already configured, the CLI complains about invalid argument. So either it's simply not allowed or some other command configures a alias addresses.
Hi all, I need to down rev a dual pri to a channelized t1. My archive is corrupt. Can anyone email me the old 3.5.0 code? -Tom

Yes, you must be in a separate subnet. I was considering splitting up traffic between the eth1 and eth2 ports, but later decided that what wouldn't gain much so instead added a 2nd ARC. If you have 2 arcs in your chassis you probably wouldn't be pushing enough traffic through one ARC to justify using the 2nd port. There are probably other uses for it but I haven't thought of any for our application. - Mike ------------------------------------------------ Rock Island Communications, Inc. Speaking of 2nd ethernet port, I was wondering what are people using that 2'nd port for? Does it need to be in a separate subnet from the other port? I have my second port configured for my private ip space, I have a single user configured for this so that your assigned a static private ip. This way I can get into my server remotely but use tools I might not want to be routable over the internet or do other tasks on my private lan. I also use the private lan to do all radius stuff and snmp and so forth so it isn't on the same network as my customers traffic. -- Lewis Bergman Texas Communications 4309 Maple St. Abilene, TX 79602-8044 915-695-6962 ext 115
Hi. Maybe a bit off topic, but I'm sure someone will let me know if I am. :-) My customer has a modem listed on the chipset as SmartLink SL1800 and XHBN9400000B, neither of which Altavista finds. On the back of the modem it says 56PSV-A-W, which again goves no hits. This is in an E-Machine and it lists "V.92 ready" on the front sticker. Any help would be appreciated finding drivers, info, etc. - Todd
That modem is a v.90 only modem... MD-SK-5634PCV Here is the common init string we have had success with. AT&F&D2S6=5S7=60S10=15 Cheers, -Tom On 29 Oct 2002 at 14:04, Support wrote:

Sorry, that might not work, I saw 56PCV instead of 56PSV . But, since they are in the same family, the string might be enough to achieve a stable connect. Cheers, -Tom
