IP System Host Address not reporting correctly
Greetings! I am having a slight problem with a TC1000 chassis I'm trying to put back into service. This chassis was in service about a year ago, and we had no problems with it. I've reconfigured all of the IP interfaces according to the documentation, but in the RADIUS accounting packets the NAS-IP-Address and NAS-Identifier fields are reporting an IP address which is no longer on the system (the IP from when the unit was previously deployed). Upon checking the tech support documents at utstar.custhelp.com I found this: ---- snip ---- Question: How can I set the "IP System Host Address" on a HARC card ? Answer: This parameter is defined by the operating system itself, and it is related to the first IP address that is assigned to an interface on the HARC card, there is no way it can be configured manually. In order for you to change it, it is necessary to disable and remove all the other interfaces but the one that you wish to be assigned as the "IP System Host Address". Once all the interfaces but the one you want are removed, the system will assign it automaticaly. Not too sure...I'll look at this a little closer when I have some more free time. 1 suggestion that everyone should probably do before configuring a new box that may work. Did you delete the configuration before reconfiguring it to make sure any old settings were wiped out? I didn't delete the configuration as such, I just started out be changing what options were necessary. As the box is remote, I'm not sure if that would be a good idea right now. Since TCM talks to the NMC, this would probably be safe (as long as the unit isn't in service), right? I am presuming that it would not delete NMC configuration information, only HiPer ARC configuration. If so, I could safely do so. That mailing list post was one result that came up on google, which is what lead me to this list ;) According to the document you linked from utstar (which i have looked at), I should not be having this problem. I've read the documentation. The problem is that my TC isn't behaving as the documentation indicates it should. The doc you linked says: "You can verify the newly added internal network by issuing list interfaces. Issuing show ip settings will also display this internal network. But, be aware that if you do not configure a global IP network, the IP System Host Address displayed by show ip settings will be the IP address of the first Ethernet interface enabled on your system." That's all fine and dandy, but it is /not/ setting itself to the ip address of the first ethernet interface enabled on the system. That is what I am trying to solve here. As far as setting the "global IP network" I'm not sure exactly what that is getting at, I configured my interface as the quick-start guide indicates: add ip network <name> address <address/mask> interface eth:1 This is without the keyword "internal" incidated by the on-line docs, though. Perhaps that is the source of the problem? Can I "set" it as internal? You can do a reconfigure ip network command. How about trying a different ip on it temporarily with the internal command and see if that does the trick. If it does....reconfigure it with the correct ip and you're all set. You might also try the command 'show all configuration' and see if you see anything unusual there or the old ip somewhere in the config. Have you rebooted this box? Seems like a strange problem. Yeah, I rebooted a couple of times. It's not running OSPF, either.

Maybe it's something with the code revision you're running, I'm not sure.
This should be fairly straight forward. Like I said previously if it were
me I would go back out to the site and delete the configuration and start
over.
If you absolutely don't have that option the only other thing I can offer is
create a temporary account on the arc for me and I can jump in and take a
look.
The documentation states (as you know) that the IP host address is the
access router card's first enabled Ethernet address - Eth:1 or Eth:2
It seems that somehow you're not deleting the old stuff out correctly.

That's kinda what I was wondering. Unfortunately, we don't have a support contract so we can't get newer code revisions. I would note that the versions I'm using came out of a file my boss got years ago that unzipped to a hiearchy titled "4.5-Beta", so it might be 'beta' code too. Is there any way to legitimately obtain newer code without a support contract?
If you absolutely don't have that option the only other thing I can offer is create a temporary account on the arc for me and I can jump in and take a look.
Unfortunately, I had to put the unit into service yesterday. We ran out of time to fix the problem, and had to start using it. For now, we'll just have to deal with the RADIUS packets having the wrong information.
The documentation states (as you know) that the IP host address is the access router card's first enabled Ethernet address - Eth:1 or Eth:2
It seems that somehow you're not deleting the old stuff out correctly.
I don't know how else to delete it, aside from waxing the whole configuration. I've attached the output of "show all configuration" to this message, in case that would help at all. Thank you for your assistance thus far, I appreciate it. - Nick

It seems to want the ethernet network interface, but that pretty much ends up being back to the original configuration command. Perhaps I am missing something?
How about trying a different ip on it temporarily with the internal
command
and see if that does the trick. If it does....reconfigure it with the correct ip and you're all set.
You might also try the command 'show all configuration' and see if you see anything unusual there or the old ip somewhere in the config.
I do see it under "IP Router ID", but nowhere else.
Have you rebooted this box? Seems like a strange problem. Just curious...are running OSPF on this box? If so...does the OSPF config look ok?
Yeah, I rebooted a couple of times. It's not running OSPF, either.
