Re: [USR-TC] Which ARC to use?

Nick,
Yes, as I recall all of our ARC II cards have blue tabs but don't indicate HiperARC or ARC II on the front. If it boots up do a, " list chassis " and it should display itself as ARC-II.
Under "list chassis" both of my blue tab ARC cards show up as "HiPer-II", while the grey tab card shows up as "HiPer Access Router NAC". However, both blue tab cards list that X2/V.90 is disabled in their features list (The [grey] HiPer ARC shows it enabled). Will this disable that feature on the chassis, even if all other componants support/have it enabled? My NMC has X2/V.90 listed as enabled, so will that over-ride the setting of the ARC? Also I noticed that on the [blue] ARC's that in the TC manager, there is nothing to configure, but in the [grey] HiPer ARC there is. I'm sorry if these are dumb questions, but I really don't know much about this platform. From looking at "list chassis", and from what ya'll are saying, the blue cards would be better, but the V.90 thing worries me. Unfortunately, I don't have the resources (a PRI) to make test calls with. <... comes back to email window an hour later ...> Well, at least I can test it now :) I've run a line from the wall to a punchdown block, which is connecting to an Adit 600 DAX via a 25 pair cable, and the DAX is hooked up to the TC. I've made a few test calls, but having some trouble with authentication I'll still have to sort out, but I can handle that tomorrow :) Still, I would like opinions/thoughts on the v.90 issue above. As always, I appreciate everyones/anyones input! Thanks :)
Also, the 333 NMC is substantially faster than the hiper, but unless you do lots of SNMP polling/trapping/reconfiguring, it's probably not worth the money to upgrade.
It doesn't sound like it would be anything necessary. Perhaps if i was doing more intensive polling than just checking how many modems are in use and ethernet port traffic.

So, I would be better off with a blue clip ARC than a grey clip HiPer ARC?

Hi Nick,
Yes, the blue-clip ARCs are newer. Also, if you would like to upgrade to the 333 NMC, I have one available (NIC/NAC set) for sale at $750. I also have some Multispan T1 card sets available, looking for offers. Would you be interested in either? Please let me know either way, and we can get the details worked out.

So, I'm getting ready to deploy a new chassis and I'm trying to figure
out which ARC card I should use, out of what I have available. I've got three cards with blue handle tabs labeled "ARC Access Router" and one with grey handle tabs labeled "HiPer Access Router Card".
http://boberz.thewatch.org/gallery/view_photo.php?set_albumName=album0 3&id=ARC_Top
http://boberz.thewatch.org/gallery/view_photo.php?set_albumName=album03& id=ARC_front
http://boberz.thewatch.org/gallery/view_photo.php?set_albumName=album03& id=HiperARC_front
http://boberz.thewatch.org/gallery/view_photo.php?set_albumName=album03& id=HiperARC_top
Now, according to my understanding the HiPer ARC should be superior. However, my boss was telling me the other day that stuff with the blue
handles was newer/better than stuff with the grey handles.
So, I'm a little confused as to which card would be better to use. I'm
going to be coupling this with an older model NMC, I'm unsure of the model, but It's got a 486SX processor, 20Mb RAM, and 8Mb flash - definately not the newer G3 unit. The chassis will also have seven single span T1 modem cards, too.
As an aside, if anyone knows how to take care of the bad flash issue on the G3 based NMC's, without needing a support contract, let me know :)
So, which ARC would be my best bet? Thanks in advance for any advice.
