about backup of flash image and dsp's code
Hi All, Here we have frequent electricity problem of overvoltage , and UPS is also problematic. Thats why there may be chances of frequent sudden power off. Will it affect anyway to TC1000, I want to take backup of Code of Hiper ARC and Hiper DSP and NMC,, How?? , so that incase of anything failure I can restore it .. how?? And what else should I take as backup and how? Please provide me some guidance. Thanks Pankaj
Just invest in a power conditioner. It will supply a constant voltage to the equipment. To answer your question, YES....if you lose power the affect on your TC1000 is that it will shut off. Assuming you saved all your config settings they should restore without any issue when power is restored. I assume when you say "code" your actually meaning "config". To save the config on the hiperarcs do a show all configuration and copy and paste it into a text file for safe keeping. For the DSP settings...go to trunk settings in TCM and copy them and paste them into a text file as well. Assuming you saved all your config settings they should restore without any issue when power is restored. I assume when you say "code" your actually meaning "config". I am usally saving all config after any changes on ARC. code I mean firmware or flash image if I am not wrong,,, (Like in cisco routers I am saving config as well as IOS using ftp and tftp) Is there any method to backup and restore config and code of HiperARC using ftp or tftp. So that in case of config loss I just need to restore backedup confige instead of manual reconfiguration of ARC
To save the config on the hiperarcs do a show all configuration and copy and paste it into a text file for safe keeping. Its ok,,, but can I restore config directly using this text file.
For the DSP settings...go to trunk settings in TCM and copy them and paste them into a text file as well. Again how to restore this config,,, or only way is to manual reconfiguration.
Another problem is since from today morning one of my HiperDSP not working,, RN/FL is red, and one of the utilization indicator LED is safrenine, on my TCM card status is ( ?) Unknown. Thanks pankaj

So that in case of config loss I just need to restore backedup confige instead of manual reconfiguration of ARC
For the ARC you could do this for all other cards you have to save the code in some place where you can access it later. For the arc there is a configuration option - It is seen when you reboot the arc and you will see for a few seconds a menu that will allow you to specify the a tftp server, code name and other good details. Also you can do this with configuration on the arc - which gives you option to load the code from a tftp server everytime when a reboot occurs or just once (you have options). The command is "set bootrom ip interface eth:1 address .........." This will give you options to configure on how and when to load the code when you reboot the arc. Also the ARC has what is called as a bulk file - you can save the bulkfile and tftp the file to a safe location and then use the bulkfile to reconfigure the arc. For all other cards - configuration is very simple you can use TCM and save the cfm file or nvr file that saves the entire configuration of the chassis to your local pc and then use the same to reconfigure in case of certain bad events occur.
Its ok,,, but can I restore config directly using this text file.
Again how to restore this config,,, or only way is to manual reconfiguration.

What do you think happened before this? To start first you would need to reboot the dsp and see if it responds either to nmc or the arc, did you have a hard failure where the dsp lost its brain? -V
Thanks pankaj

You are doing something wrong. Using TCM all you have to do is this: open the chassis in TCM perform the following to save the configuration file: 1) Select "Save CFM" from the File menu. 2) Click the "Browse" button to choose the file destination and name. 3) Select OK once you have entered a name and location. 4) Ensure that the "Save Configuration" radio button is selected and click "OK". With the Chassis open in TCM perform the following to save the NVRAM file: 1) Select "Save NVRAM" from the File menu. 2) Click the "Browse" button to choose the file destination and name. 3) Select OK once you have entered a name and location. 4) Ensure that the "Save Configuration" radio button is selected and "Update NVRAM before saving configuration" check box is selected. 5) Click "OK". -----------------------------

You need to first upgrade your TCM - get the latest TCS 4.3 version 8.x No you cannot transfer working DSPs code, you have to keep a local copy of the code and download the same any number of times - all you can save is the dsp configuration. Corrupted flash typically requires you to format the flash using the aux port on the DSP to download the code with AT{Z} command and download the code via zmodem. -V
There are no such option like Save CFM in TCM( 5.5 or 6.0 ) .
I dont have downloaded code,, but I have working dsps, Can I transfer working dsp's code to currupted flash. How???

Another issue you'll have with a sudden power of is with your RADIUS depending on what you use. You need a radius server that will do actual snmp port checking on your hiperarc. When the TC is suddenly powed off no acct stop packets are sent. When the chassis comes back up noone that was dialed in and has simultaneous-use = 1 will be able to get back in unless you erase your stale sessions on your radius. -- Lewis Bergman Texas Communications 4309 Maple St. Abilene, TX 79602-8044 915-695-6962 ext 115
