They haven't done squat for us in the past (re: service contracts, pricing, upgrades) and 3 years ago there were MANY more USR/3COM installed ISP's). Face it, unless you are an Earthlink, AOL or MSN they don't (and time has proven they don't) give a damn about you. Start phasing out your 3COM and get on with it. My Patton units were upgraded to v.92 for free... but 96 ports of Patton costs $15K, 96ports of DSPs costs $2K on e-bay. -- Paul Farber Farber Technology farber@admin.f-tech.net Ph 570-628-5303 Fax 570-628-5545 On Fri, 15 Nov 2002, Infoblvd Support wrote:

I'M IN!... we aren't exactly a 'small' ISP (over 4000 ports). I also can maybe encourage other ISP's in Ohio (via www.oispa.org). I have heard enough lies and broken promises from 3com over the years. We litterally spent millions with them... and they turned their backs on us with v.92. (Sorry it's NOT afford to upgrade with 4000 ports! It should be free if our hardware is capable and we have bought the kind of volume we have. With other vendors it would have been done for free.. This has been confirmed.)
I am sure our clout as a group with our customers will lead to a downturn in their sales.

I started thinking about what we can do about USR and their satanic hunt for money. Then I said HEY, we have access to the people USR likes - those that buy modems!
So, I am officially starting a campaign to organize small ISP's that will formally recommend to users that they NOT BUY USR MODEMS. Simple enough, we have plenty of options for modems.
I represent a potential base of over 21,000 users that I can recommend equipment for. The way I see it is we ask for certain things for all small ISP's with under 50,000 subscribers (number can change)
o Reasonable cost for software updates to TC chassis o Reasonable cost for CEM/TCM/whatever
If you would like to throw your weight behind this send a private e-mail to me
To: steve@napanet.net Subject: USR Boycott Campaign
Include your name and contact info, company, commitment to refuse endorsement of USR modems to your customer, and number of subscribers.
I think if we work together and show 3com that we are going to take away half a million potential customers we can get USR/3com to change policies.
ACT NOW
Steve
