I don't exactly understand why but I've told customers that if they upgrade to a 56k modem (a long time ago) that their connection speed could go down instead of up. We've considered installing an analog group using the Quad V34 modems (we sold our ISPortes some time ago) using a channel bank to convert PRIs into analog lines in the hopes it would help those customers that have problems no matter what we suggest. We have several PM3s, TCs and a TNT and no matter what we have the customer do they just can't stay connected (or satisfied anyway). Sometimes they switch services and their connection might get better or it might get worse. An ISP across the Mississippi River called semo.net is giving away Zoom modems to new customers and selling them to existing customers - http://www.semo.net/promotions/zoom.asp They have a radio commercial advertising a free modem to new customers. This seems to be a common practice among some ISPs. I know of a large ISP in Arizona that bought 10,000 modems for $10 each and gave them to customers to help reduce complaints regarding connection problems. If I dial up to my rack on an analog phone line connected an analog nic of a Quad V.34 Dig/Analog modem, I get 33.6K EVERY time. In fact, EVERY SINGLE time I get 33.6K, no matter how many times I dial. With the same computer, same modem, same phone line connected to the computer, if I dial up to one of my Hiper DSP's, I can't get better than 28.8, and usually 24K or 26400. Does this mean that signal quality on the T1's into my Hiper DSPs isn't as good as a regular POTS line? How should I interpret this? Is this anything I should be concerned about? Just curious.
