Subject: RE: [USR-TC] Help!!
Sounds like the NMC is locking up for some reason. On the
other hand, the ARC appears to be working, just with it's config wiped
out and not receiving your input.
First, I would remove the NMC and put it in another chassis and
see if the behavior follows it or not. Also, test whether or not
the ARC behaves the same when the NMC is out of the chassis. It
may be possible that if the NMC is bad, it's causing the ARC to lock up,
or the other way around, but that's only a guess.
Also - to confirm that the cable is good - you should be able to
plug it into one of the other cards in that chassis and you should get
some response to pressing enter on your terminal. If not, then it
is the cable. Also, retest your cable on a another chassis.
Just because it WAS working, doesn't mean it is now. I've had
printer cables in use for years that never get touched, not even bumped,
and they just all-of-a-sudden fail one day.
Hi Joel,
I am pretty sure the
cable is working ok. It works fine on another unit, I have verified the
port speed and tried the debug jumper.. It seems that the unit
is locking up at a certain point. I don't
know what to do at this point..

Help!!
First, your Hiper ARC has lost it's
configuration. Can you not type an "N" to get a prompt? If
not, restart the thing, and when you see the "HiPer Access Router Boot
Configuration" menu, try and type something. If you can't
type anything there, then your serial cable isn't
working.
Second, on the NMC - don't have a clue, but
you might try removing the debug jumper toward the front of the card
and see if starts then. Also - I've found that a serial cable
that's wired wrong, or the wrong port settings for your serial port,
can cause either the ARC or the NMC to hang indefinitely until you
remove the serial cable. Once you confirm that your serial cable
is working on the ARC, then plug it into the NMC and see if works
better.

When I plug into the units NMC here is what I get
