They told me it was b8zs / esf on a 5ESS switch. Also I've gotten to the point where I can reset the total control and everything thing will come up for a bit but after a few minutes it goes back to a red alarm. Very interesting. Hardware problem? You should have a carrier detect light assuming that the telco is sending you a signal and that you have your framing and linecode options set correctly. Also...if it's a PRI you need to have the switch type set correctly. Do you know if this ckt is setup to be esf / b8zs or d4/ami?
The config info I provided for a Verizon ckt on a 5ess below is configured for d4/ami. The most common setting is typically b8zs / esf.
Also...as a tidbit....if I have the framing set incorrectly on a span the dsp will not show carrier detect and will have a red alarm indication. Which is also a handy way of forcing calls to roll past that span if it's having issues.

Am I correct in assuming that Carrier Detect should come up regardless of configuration. As long as there is a device on the other end I should have a green CD right?

Here's my config for a dsp off a verizon 5ess:
S14C25 dsx1D4 dsx1AMI
dsx1NoLoop robbedBit loopTiming longHaul ignore attenJitterOnRcvr dB0pt0 noAddress wink disabled 70 eAndMTypeII priSw5ESS 254 dB26 dtmf 4 dsx1SendNoCode
Not sure what the default number of tones are but I believe that applies to ani / dnis or ani+dnis.
I wouldn't even worry about that yet seeing as you don't have carrier and are getting a loss of signal indicator. Hard to believe your D-channel is up. I would look at replacing your cable plugging into the dual pri card.

Hi,
I'm trying to configure a dual PRI card running the 3.1.5 software revision to interface with a 5ESS swith from Verizon but am having some problems. I've only ever configured DMS-100's so I'm not sure if I'm missing anything. I get the D-channel up, but the B's never come up. Also, I have a red alarm light and no carried detect light. If I look at the span stats, it shows the following:
Time since clear (days::hh:mm:ss): 0::0:0:39 Receiver Gain: 0.0 dB Errored Seconds: 1 Severely Errored Seconds: 1 Unavailable Secs (freezes other ctrs): 27 Bipolar Violations (LCV): 0 Framing Bit Errors (D4 path code viol): 0 Change In Frame Alignment: 0 Severely Err Framing Secs (oof, ais): 1 Controlled Slip Secs (frame slips): 1 Bursty Errored Seconds (ESF Only): 0 CRC Errors (ESF path code viol): 0 Excessive CRC Error (ESF Only): 0 Out of Frame: N Out of Frame: (Red Alarm): N Loss of Signal: Y Loss of Signal: (Red Alarm): Y Remote Frame Alarm: N Remote Frame Alarm: (Yellow Alarm): N Alarm Indication Signal: N Alarm Indication Signal: (Blue Alarm): N Loop Back: None D-Channel Status: Up
Verizon tells me I must configure my end to send them 10 digits. Where do I set this or is 10 digits the default? Also, I believe they have configured the circuit as a 2 way PRI although we only need to accept inbound calls. Any ideas? Any assistance is greatly appreciated. You probably know what it's like dealing with Verizon.
