Just out of curiosity, when I look at the card, I see a socket which I
assume is for 64 or 128 MB of memory. Where does the 16MB of Flash memory
installed on the card?

2. I actually have a card like that myself. It was an older 64/8, but when
one of my 128/16s went bad, I swapped the ram. (the 128/16 wasn't under
contract) 

You may have purchased a card that went through a similar "upgrade".
