HiperDSP and certain modem chipsets

Hi, We're having handshaking issues with our HiperDSP (3.5.12) rack and certain client modem chipsets. Customers with Lucent WinModems and older USR Sportsters (x2) aren't finishing a handshake. The strange thing is that the same customers can connect fine onto our older Quad Modem racks. We've tried to reproduce the problem here with no success. I've tried Lucent drivers from 5.20 to 8.22 (newest), and they all connected fine. I've also tried older USR Sportsters with v.34, x2, and v.90 flash. They also connected fine, although the x2 flashes only connected at v.34. CommWorks support suggested I disable pcm upstream, and to try the 3.5.100 ER DSP code. I've also (as per the knowledge base) tried disabling v.92 altogether, and also V.FC Precoding. I even (on a whim) tried disabling V.44 and V.42. Nothing seems to have any effect. It's my understanding that it can, as long as you have the right drivers for it. By the way, anyone need any EdgeServer parts? two arcs

Hi, I've been reading up on how to get two hiper arcs working, and there appear to be numerous ways... -static config where each arc owns half the cards -dynamic config where the nmc decides who owns what -variations on the above Which one actually works? I'm most interested in sharing the load, but an automatic failover would be nice too. I saw some old posts in the archives that mention that in some failure modes (where the arc doesn't fully fail but sticks in a reboot loop) the whole chassis basically takes a dive as ownership flip-flops between two arcs. I'm probably just stating the obvious here (is to me anyway), but we certainly keep spare equipment at a different location such that -- worst cases -- equipment blows up, flames out, gets stolen, etc., that we'll be back in business ASAP. Your ARC, a chassis (find yourself a dual 45A...many of us have "spares" up the wazoo) and perhaps a spare DSP & NMC to go with that extra ARC. I know how easy it is to become enamored with the more geekly aspects of ...anything..., including redundancy, but this is more in the "common sense and protections" zone to consider. A lot of these really groovy and expensive failover types of things don't work so good when a whole box gets fried by lightening, stolen, etc., etc--which are more highly probable and destructive than having a 2nd ARC pick up after a failing one next to it. KISS--90% solutions, covering your bases, probabilities, aren't as exciting (or expensive). Just boring good business practice. just FYI - I agree with Charles - I absolutely believe in "KISS". When I started looking at my options, and realized how much more complicated it got with 2 ARC's, and then considered that I only have 2 DSP's, I said "FORGET IT" and pulled the second one. EMAIL ONLY FILTER

There was some discussion a few days ago about creating a filter to allow a user access only to email. Does anyone have a filter that conclusively works for this and how to set it up and make it work? I understand how to use RADIUS to enable the filter on specific users, just not sure what all has to be in the filter. Curious if anyone for sure figured it out. Thanks, Joel

TCM and XP
