You were expected to register each Acronis license used in your household in your one Acronis account. Having multiple licenses registered in your Acronis account was not a problem, since each license was assigned to a different computer. Then Acronis introduced subscription licenses and things got complicated. Now, licenses not only needed to be assigned to a certain computer, but also for a certain time period. It took one license for each year on one computer. So, when you registered a new license in your Acronis account, will that license be assigned to a new computer or assigned as an additional year on an existing computer? As I said, things got complicated. Acronis solved this problem by introducing a single license good for multiple computers. That way they could handle computer assignment in an alternate way. They had been selling multi-computer licenses in larger quantities to businesses for years, so expanding this to end-users was an easy step for them. They offered multi-computer licenses for 3 or 5 computers in addition to their normal single-computer license. To encourage end-users to buy multiple licenses at a time, they offered excellent quantity discounts on the multi-licenses. So, it was less expensive to buy a 3-computer license than to buy two single computer licenses. As a small distributor, I did not want to stock many different license types, so I only stocked the single-computer licenses, even though they cost me more to buy from Acronis. I made sure my customers got the same quantity discounts that Acronis was offering for 3 and 5 computer licenses and gave them an extra 50% off on top of that. All was going well until my customers started to register the many single serial numbers. For example, when they received the 3 serial numbers from me and registered them in their one Acronis account, they couldn't apply them to other computers. Instead, Acronis used the 3 serial numbers to give them a 3-year subscription on one computer. My customers were being forced to set up different Acronis accounts for each computer. An administration nightmare. So, several months ago, I was forced to join Acronis and stock serial numbers just for Essentials for 1 computer, Essentials for 3 computers, and Essentials for 5 computers, plus 3 more for Advanced and 3 more for Premium. Then, I have another file for Disk Director serial numbers. While having so many serial number files is a headache for me, at least my customers have consistency when buying from Acronis or me. Now, I am hearing from my customers that they use to get many different serial numbers from me, and now they get just one. They want the old approach of different serial numbers from me again. Try as I do, one approach won't please everyone. So, now you can pick for yourselves which you would prefer. Just order the 1 serial# option or the 3 serial# option or the 5 serial# option. I offer all for your choosing. Hopefully, this will satisfy all. However, to use the many single serial numbers approach, you need to do a few special things, hence I call this a hack. I will cover these special steps in the remainder of this newsletter. Working with Many Single Serial Numbers The first thing you need to do is to setup a different Acronis account for each computer you will run Acronis Cyber Protect Home Office on. You will need a different email address to do this, but these are free and easy to obtain. It is still a nuisance to do, but that is needed to take advantage of this hack. Having different serial numbers lets you share an order with someone else to get a better price for individual licenses. Each person then gets their own serial numbers. How could you possibly share a single serial number? The same is true for remote family members. It's easy to email a young adult away at college one of the serial numbers to use on their computer. Again, sharing a single serial number is not practical. I am not going to be around for many more years, so the great discounts I offer will be gone sometime in the future. With different single serial numbers, you can stack extra years on your main computer. Just register multiple single serial numbers in the account assigned to your main computer and you will have extra years added to that computer. You can do this year stacking with multiple computers, too. Save up your years and use them later. With subscription licenses, you can always upgrade to the new release. So, Acronis no longer sells CPHO with a year in the product name. So, you can save them and use them later when you need them. Just don't register them when you get them. Save them unregistered. Then in a year or so you buy a new computer, set up an Acronis account for that computer and register your saved serial number. You will get a year's usage out of that number starting when you register it. If you buy a single license to be used on say 5 computers. The yearly clock starts ticking as soon as you register that number for just one computer. All 5 licenses run out at the same time. I hope this shows the advantages of buying and using many single computer licenses. If you know of other such advantages, let me know and I will share with everyone.
