Dear T'ang Studies Society Members, The T'ang Studies Society Board of Directors met on 18 March 2011 in Chicago. Several important changes result from that meeting. First, we are pleased to announce the results of the 2011 Board election. Suzanne Cahill and Steve Bokenkamp were both re-elected, and Victor Xiong was elected, all to three year terms. We thank Eugene Wang for his service on the board these past three years. Second, we would like to express our appreciation to several outgoing officers of the Society, and formally announce new officers. After serving as President for six years, Michael Drompp has stepped down from that position. Anna Shields, University of Maryland, Baltimore County, has been chosen by the Board to serve as President of the Society, effective 19 March 2011. T'ang Studies Editor Ding Xiang Warner is handing over the editor's pencil after the completion of the 2011 volume. Her successor, and co-editor for this year, is Christopher Nugent, of Williams College. I will likewise be stepping aside as the Secretary-Treasurer of the Society. The Board has selected Tony DeBlasi, University at Albany SUNY, as my successor. Tony and I will share the duties of the secretariat until the Society's meeting in Spring 2012. We are thankful to the service of all outgoing officers and board members, and excited about the future directions of the Society under new leadership. The T'ang Studies Society will not have its usual presence at the upcoming AAS meeting in Hawaii; no general meeting/reception. I know that many of you use this opportunity to pay your annual membership dues, so to facilitate this, I will leave a dropbox at the Maney Publishing (our publishing partner) booth in the book exhibition Thurs-Saturday. Kim Martin, our rep from Maney, will be able to accept checks and cash dues payments, and I will pick these up from her at the end of the day Saturday. If this is not convenient, you can always pay your dues online at: http://tangstudies.org/membership Regular memberships are $35 per year. Student memberships are $20 per year. If your contact information has changed, please email me the current info and I'll make sure that my database is updated. Finally, in 2012 we will meet at the AAS meeting in Toronto and resume our regular Saturday evening general meeting and reception. Best, Mike Farmer
