Eide Library, Sarasota, Florida The T’ang Studies Society will convene a conference on Friday, April 25 and Saturday, April 26, 2025 to showcase the breadth of innovative research on Tang China in recent years. Researchers in all disciplines are encouraged to submit proposals. The organizers especially welcome proposals that question conventional boundaries of space, time, discipline, and canon. The research may involve the Sui, Tang, and Five Dynasties period (589—959 C.E.), as well as the Tang in a global context, tracing cultural and political connections to Korea, Japan, Central Asia, and beyond. The Society also has a long-standing commitment to bringing together scholars of all types and from all career stages, from advanced graduate students to senior scholars as well as those working outside of academic institutions. The Society will hold the conference at the Elling O. Eide Library in Sarasota, Florida. Panels will be thematically organized based on the individual submissions accepted. Applicants are also welcome to submit panel proposals. To facilitate the exploration of the interconnections between different research projects and help chart a course for the future development of Tang Studies, the conference will conclude with a session to discuss the state of the field. The Society seeks proposals from scholars at any stage of their careers to fill the conference program. Proposals should contain the author’s name, institutional affiliation (if appropriate), address, and a 200-word abstract for a 20-minute paper. Please send proposals electronically to the Society’s e-mail address at [ mailto:conference@tangstudies.org | conference@tangstudies.org ] by October 15, 2024. Decisions will be made no later than by December 1, 2024. Lodging, a modest transportation subvention, most meals, and conference registration will be provided by the Society for those presenting papers at the conference. Registration materials for scholars who would like to attend without presenting a paper will be made available in December 2024, on the T’ang Studies Society website. There is no financial support for those not presenting papers. Please note: Presenters must be members of the T'ang Studies Society at the time they submit their proposals.
