Dear colleagues and friends of the Eide Center,

I am writing to call your attention to several funding and programmatic opportunities available through the Eide Center, listed below. I am hoping you will have time at the end of the semester to share these opportunities with students and faculty colleagues who may be interested. If you have any questions at all, please do not hesitate to contact me. I hope everyone has a restful holiday break!

Best,

Matt

1. Undergraduate scholarships: This scholarship provides $1,000 for undergraduates who are going abroad to study Chinese language. The scholarship may be used for both semester- and year-long programs as well as short-term summer programs.

2. Dissertation research fellowships:This scholarship provides $1,500 for graduate students who are going abroad to do dissertation research.

3. Visiting scholars program: The Eide Center welcomes visiting scholars to come use the library for research projects of all disciplines. We offer modest financial support for visitors along with free housing at our guest house. Short- and long-term stays are possible.

4. Song Dynasty Texts Workshop: This two-day workshop (June 9-10, 2023), led by Professors Mark Halperin and Ellen Zhang, will introduce graduate students and early career scholars to texts from the Song era that are less commonly studied by historians. The seminar is designed to increase the participants' skills in reading and working with these sources. Applicants do not necessarily need to be Song-period scholars to attend. Expenses of all participants will be paid by the Eide Center. Only 10 spaces are available.

5. Job opening at the Eide Center: WE ARE HIRING! The Eide Center is looking for a new Marketing/Strategic Communications and Event Coordinator. If you know of a talented undergraduate student who is graduating at the end of Fall term and would like experience working in a non-profit setting, please let them know about us! Job advertisement is attached.
