Dear Members and Friends of the T’ang Studies Society,

The Medieval Academy of America (MAA) actively seeks to bolster participation by non-Europeanists at the 2023 Annual Meeting. There are a few co-sponsored sessions that will undoubtedly be of interest to scholars of Asia: a co-organized session with the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Asian Art, "Rethinking Global Medieval Art and Material Culture"; and another co-organized session with the American Council for Southern Asian Art, "The Mobile “Medieval” and Its Ramifications in Southern Asia." The deadline to submit paper or session proposals is June 1 of this year, and while membership is required to present, it is not required to submit. The conference closing reception will be held at the National Museum of Asian Art. TSS board member Michelle C. Wang (Georgetown University) is on the MAA 2023 Program Committee and is happy to answer any questions that interested TSS members may have regarding the conference.

And attached is the revised Conference Travel Grant document. I've added the following sentence to the first paragraph using track changes, highlighted in yellow (attached):

"In order to raise the academic profile of Tang studies generally, applications to support travel to non-China or non-Asian studies conferences, in addition to China or Asian studies conferences, are equally welcome."

Would it be possible to circulate the MAA 2023 CFP and perhaps also the Conference Travel Grant CFP within the next week or so? Thanks so much!

All the best,

Michelle
