I contributed a new article about horror in academia, called "Degrees of
Dread," that talks about how to combine an interest in horror with
college studies and going after your MFA. LICKER violates every possible
notion of good taste, gleefully, and the result is an optimistic
graveyard fandango. My annotated list of Must-Have Horror Anthologies
just went live on the Reading Room at Horror Fiction News Network. In
the process, I think he uncovers some of the secrets behind what makes a
"gorelet" poem tick. News: I'll be sending out the next e-mail edition

prose, and characters who will eat your heart out with a wooden spoon! A
lot of good books won the award this year. Arnzen, a novelette of

I'm happy to report that my book of mutant character studies-in-verse,
FREAKCIDENTS, has just won the Bram Stoker Award for Superior
Achievement in a Poetry Collection!
And they've got lots and lots of Halloween tricks and treats in store
for you all over their site.
This is my third Stoker, and I'm jumping with manic joy.
In an early review, Horror World calls it an "over-the-top, gross-out
laugh riot. Vanderworld: Look for the fun interview, "Michael Arnzen
Walks the Plank," scheduled to appear on fantasist Jeff Vandermeer's
weblog in the weeks to come. Dissections also includes a handful of
critical essays that "dissect" my horror poetry in Gorelets and my
short-short fiction in 100 Jolts by Lawrence C. A delirious year,
perhaps.
