Ogden man arrested in fake FBI scam Wed, Feb 2, 2005 By MARK GRAY Standard-Examiner staff mgray(a)standard.net SOUTH OGDEN -- A local gas station employee pretending to be working undercover for the FBI is awaiting charges after police said he tried to coax at least two teenage male customers to engage in various homosexual sex acts for a "federal investigation." Justin Wayne Crosbie, who was paroled in December 2003 after being convicted twice on various illegal sex acts, promised the victims that the nonexistent FBI task force he worked for would give them cash, a car and a clean criminal record. The males' assistance was requested to curb the activities of a prominent child molester, the 30-year-old told them. "He told them the FBI task force was trying to set up a sting operation to catch the guy and they needed the males to engage in activity with the man," South Ogden Police Lt. Darin Parke said. "There was no guy. The only person involved was Mr. Crosbie. This was a ploy to get the victims alone with him. He targeted teenage boys because that's the age group he's attracted to." Police know of two teenage victims and one adult male victim. Since Crosbie worked in a field that sees many people come and go, police believe there are more victims. The suspect worked at Chevron stations at 42nd Street and Harrison Boulevard and 1855 Skyline Drive. "He said he fished out males that he was attracted to that came into the stores," Parke said. "He would get in a position where he could talk to them in a semi-private setting, and that's when he approached them with the supposed investigation." Parke said Crosbie would first ask if the male teenagers were interested in making extra money by posing nude in various homosexual positions. When they declined, he would then claim to be an undercover FBI agent looking for someone to assist in the investigation. One of the victims momentarily agreed to assist the faux FBI investigation but later rescinded after he arrived at the phony sting location. After getting the original tip through one of the victims, South Ogden police monitored Crosbie's every move via surveillance. He was arrested Jan. 21 on a parole violation and has been held in the Weber County Jail as the county attorney reviewed felony criminal solicitation charges. On Monday, the county attorney agreed to file one charge, but others could and will likely follow. "He was basically going to keep going until he was arrested again," Parke said. In 1998, Crosbie was convicted on four counts of forcible sex abuse. All his victims were minors. In 1994, he was convicted of sexual abuse of a child. Sex convict sent to diagnostic unit FARMINGTON -- A judge ordered a 29-year-old Murray man to serve 90 days at the Utah State Prison diagnostic unit before he is sentenced. Brandon Jay Olsen pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual abuse of a child, dealing harmful materials to a minor and enticing a minor over the Internet on Nov. 1. On Monday, 2nd District Court Judge Glen C. Dawson said the diagnostic evaluation provided by the prison will help him with the sentencing because it will also contain a psychosexual evaluation. Olsen was arrested in February 2004 after Woods Cross police were contacted by the Division of Child and Family Services. Police said Olsen met two 13-year-old girls over the Internet, drove from his home to West Bountiful, where he picked up the girls, took them for a ride and then exposed himself to them, talked in a vulgar sexual manner and touched the girls' breasts.

Ogden man pleads guilty to abuse Tues, Feb 1, 2005 Larger Text Smaller Text By TIM GURRISTER Standard-Examiner staff tgurrister(a)standard.net OGDEN -- In tears, serial pedophile Walter Lee Hunt pleaded guilty Monday to four first-degree felonies and two second-degree felonies for plying 11- and 12-year-old girls with drugs and alcohol in return for sex. The rapes occurred over two years in the late 1990s in Ogden, according to charging documents, leading to 14 counts ranging from aggravated sexual abuse of a child and object rape of a child to sexual exploitation of a minor. The two Ogden victims, now over 18, went to police after the 60-year-old Hunt called them and proposed marriage, something they had talked about years earlier. Eight counts were dismissed in a plea bargain. Second District Judge John R. Morris set sentencing for April 4. Two of the counts Hunt pleaded to related to filming his victims, which became key to the plea bargain as prosecutors sought a cache of videos and photographs his victims said he took of them. Weber County Attorney Mark DeCaria said defense attorney John Caine "went the extra mile on this one. He actually went to a home of Hunt's relative in Malad, Idaho, to be sure any film was secured." Hunt was arrested at the home. Caine was able to report to the court that all the film material there was in the possession of the Oneida County Sheriff's Office and scheduled to be destroyed. A large amount of other filmed material was believed destroyed years ago by a concerned relative, DeCaria said. DeCaria and Caine both believe all and any film Hunt made of victims is now "out of circulation in the stream of commerce," which DeCaria said was a concern to the Ogden victims who worried about their pictures turning up on the Internet. "We have no evidence of that," he said. But he also conceded that given "the huge sea of crud that is child pornography online" there is no way to be 100 percent sure. When Hunt was arrested in November, police feared there might have been numerous other young victims across the West where Hunt has lived the last 10 years. He has had 12 different addresses in that time, chiefly in Utah, Idaho and Nevada, and has a wife in Mexico. But no other victims came forward, and no additional charges were filed. Hunt has been held in the Weber County Jail without bail and faces the likelihood of finishing his natural life in the Utah State Prison.
