Josie Johnson Memorial Ride |
21/O/3/c | ||
| Please join us on October 15, 2005, for the second annual Josie Johnson Memorial Ride to unite the cycling community and promote bicycle safety. The Josie Johnson Memorial Ride will meet at Sugarhouse Park (south end terraces) at 12 noon, ride to the mouth of Big Cottonwood Canyon for a moment of silence, and return along Wasatch Drive back to Sugarhouse Park. Mayor Rocky Anderson and local bike advocates will address bicycle safety in our community at the gathering in Sugarhouse Park. Project leaders on the Wasatch Blvd and Big Cottonwood Road bike lane projects will share updates at the gathering at the mouth of Big Cottonwood. Also, the Salt Lake County Bicycle Advisory Committee (SLCBAC) will display work and solicit feedback on the county-wide bicycle route map project. Tour de France stage winner Dave Zabriskie will lead the ride to keep the pace nice and slow. Seriously! This ride is in remembrance to those killed in car collisions while riding their bicycles and honors Josie Johnson, who was killed while riding up Big Cottonwood Canyon on September 18, 2004. Josie was an avid road and mountain biker, overall outdoor enthusiast, and aspiring doctoral student at the University of Utah. Bright-colored jerseys and t-shirts will be available; donations for the shirts and jerseys will be used to fund the Utah Bicycle Coalition, a nonprofit organization dedicated to bicycle safety. For the Memorial Ride route, PDF poster, and other details: visit www.slcbac.org or call Jason at 565-6163 | ||||

Antelope Island - Garr Ranch |
40/O/3-4/b | ||
| Take the Antelope Island/Syracuse exit from I-15. Turn west on Antelope and proceed to the Island. We will meet in the parking lot just outside the gate. We’ll ride across the causeway, down to Garr Ranch and back, around the beaches/Visitors Center and then back across the causeway. There is a fee for bicycles, so bring money or if you have a pass, bring that along. People with passes can get 8 bicycles on the island so most of the time there are enough people with passes that we don’t even have to pay the fee. Call or check your email if weather is questionable. | ||||
