Hi people, i don't unterstand..... How many problems...... Nobody said "why" Peter Gabriel went out with a cover's album, with a classic orchestra, after many years. I think that they do this kind of projects, to inspire themself. And this is a wonderful way to do this job. And i just want to hear Sting's fantastic voice, and i'm always courious and exciting about his work. This is my joy. See someone in Wolfsburg? Bye Vania ---------- Initial Header -----------

I share the same thoughts, Michel.
How much money is enough? really? We have people like Bono (in the richest band in the world) complaining about losing profits to internet file-sharing. Can't there be stage when it's no longer about making money?
I've kind of think in Sting's case (with his last couple of albums) that he may no longer care about popularity or making money, and that he is making albums following his own interests first, regardless if they are successful or not. He may have writers' block, or he just may not be interested in going through the whole song-writing process anymore at his age.
I'm hoping this new project is not just a money grab. I hate those 'orchestra does pop-songs' things. I'm hoping there is some actual creativity in it (even though it may not be Sting's creativity). I admit, I enjoyed the last two albums when I originally thought I would not.

Hi Gio I understand that IT IS a business , but Sting's conviction are always hard to decipher, on one hand as he always said he likes to surprise people ( Ok for the Dowland and in a minor way to the Winter one) but this project like this seems a bit easy. So as you say it's a business , especially a financial one , and I am always surprised to see that people like Sting ( and many others , he's not the one ) are always willing to make more and more money. It's surely human to want more, who am I to judge, I 'll do the same perhaps if I was at his place. But I am an idealist .... Take care Michel

Hello Friends:
I still hold out some hope. Dylan has released some of his best stuff the last 5-10 years, and he's older than Moses :) Yes, it's probably business, so let's hopefully enjoy what there is for now.

Hi there from Giovanni. I can understand your point of view, but I guess there's a lot more behind this projects, that means a record company deal (probably he did a deal with Deutsche Grammophone for more records than we might expect), I guess there is also a request from the record company to release something this year...the Winter album itself was a request from the record company to release something for Christmas (they asked him to do a Christmas album that he turned into a 'Winter' album) ... at the end of the day it's about art, but it's all about business as well. An 'orchestra' album is something that many artists of his status do release, and it's something that SELLS to the main public...usually they're not for fans like us...and he knows it for sure. At this stage of the music market, releases like these can help sales...it's easy to sell a 'greatest hits' revisited...easier than trying to sell a new record, mainly if you don't have big ideas in mind; it also helps in keeping the name alive, waiting for something new to come out. Hello As Dietmar I don't understand Sting's purposes. I know these are all his songs , he is the composer of them all but they are so linked with The Police. For a man who does not love nostalgia ...I respect the man's musical positions , I can understand the John Dowland and the Winter albums , I even like them both compared to his last studios attempts even though there were some good songs , but the musical direction was so bizarre. I don' t care if Sting's records do not not rock anymore, even though the music is good. But I still love his voice and still wait for soething better. So in the meantime you can still listen to Animal Logic, Oysterhead and to the Maestro compositions ( I m not fair, am I ? !!)
