I agree this list is really getting not active and I am wondering if there is a different police/sting list I should be looking for. I love to hear the latest from fellow fans. I guess the website etc gives a lot if info but this is different. Anyway, I wondered what others thought of Andy's book. I finished it recently and was sad when I was done ..loved it and wanted more. It was great reading his perspective on things and the tours , experiences, etc. I have seen police around the world so many times that reading his take on some of those moments was really cool. Others agree? cheers David
I have to agree David, in fact I felt the same way. I never really got a good enough idea of how long and how much Andy toiled in the music business before he really made it with the Police until his book. And I for one believe that he is a much more talented guitarist than many people give him credit for. I can imagine how he felt at the show at Shea stadium, knowing he was going to go onstage for the last time with probably the best rock trio ever created, especially since he knew what kind of chemistry they all had together, in spite of the brawls.... And I too have watched Police Around the World numerous times and his decription of it all really shed a new light on many of the things that you see in the video. And with Stew's version of his autobiography, Everyone Stares, it totally leaves me wanting more. It's all I can do now to get any and every bootleg or video that is the Police in an attempt to relive it all.... If only I had been a few years older an experienced it the first time around, instead of joining the craze when Ghost in the Machine came out.... Well, that's my two cents, for what it's worth. Don't post on this board much, but thought that was a great thread to add too.... Cheers David..... and to the rest of ya. I really enjoyed Andy's book too, and--much to my surprise, honestly--I found his pre-Police story so fascinating that I was almost let down when overly familiar incidents started to creep in circa 1977. *Almost* I said. There were some fascinating insights, like debunking the myth that Henri's firing was his "fault" (i.e. Stew and Sting's attempt to recruit Cherry Vanilla's guitarist), or the insight into the "non-police saxophone sh*t" music on GHOST IN THE MACHINE. I came away impressed with his life, sad (of course) about the death of The Police, and wondering if I should feel bad about having always really liked Every Little Thing Is Magic. Also, I was newly convinced that yes Sting was a jerk then. The idea of "framing" the book with Shea was a brilliant one, and gave Andy a good excuse for the various digressions he wanted to make. Very good story about someone with a passion for music who has pursued it his whole life. I really loved it. Christopher PS--The group *has* been dead, but so have all the websites I know of. The message board on Stewart's site is quite active, and Stew does post there & visit every so often. http://www.stewartcopeland.net That's where I primarily hang out and get news the fastest... sockii
Still waiting for my copy to arrive <sigh> Loved Does everyone stare.... ranks up there will all of the Police vids/dvds that I own. Reminded me why I started listening to them all those years ago...mainstream radio in Aus had banned Roaxanne and the only station that played it was 2JJ - ironically 2JJ was and still is part of the national broadcaster! I still never ever saw the entire video the band shot down here with the sheep running around. What was it for??? Hi all....I'm one of those who used to e-mail a lot in the past but lately I've been too busy and couldn't check anything else than Stewart Copleand official website that I run. Anyway, I don't have Andy's book yet but I will have Sting in concert in a few days here in Milan, and it will be a magic night as the location is one of the most fascinating churches in town. Will you be here?
