Fred, didn't you get booted from the ballroom at some point? ;-) During the HOF sound check they jammed When the World is Running Down and I got shivers down my spine. Christine and I were front row centre for the entire soundcheck. Andy sounded quite good but what I didn't get was why he didn't use his signature beat up Telecaster for the soundcheck or the show. I could tell Sting wasn't too impressed with Andy's sound during the soundcheck either and at one point walked over and lowered the volume on his amp!! Half-joking, half serious I'm sure. Andy of course walked over and did the same thing to Sting all in good fun no doubt. One thing that I hope sees the light of day at some point - Ian, as usual, got the entire soundcheck on video. Michelle, I know you don't regret seeing The Police live that night but it was the best night of my life having never seen or met them before. They weren't 1980 Japan or '81 Australia fantastic but they barely rehearsed together in NYC and didn't have the chops or road experience that AC/DC had. AC/DC kicked ass, took no prisoners and I'm not even that big of a fan. Maybe Andy did have a few drinks that night and the nerves/pressure played a part. Imagine all your past and present peers in one room and try not to fumble the ball. As I said, I blame it more on the different guitar used that night. Stewart rocked that night and Sting barely looked like he was enjoying himself. Who knows all the circumstances and excuses. Certainly the end left a lot to be desired and I didn't like the backup singer at all.... but this wasn't really a show for public consumption anyway. It was cobbled together by the HOF staff. Originally they were all supposed to be onstage together for I Fought The Law as a tribute to Joe Strummer but Sting probably didn't want to do that so we got EBYT as the big closing number. Bring on the reunion and world tour!! Peace and The Police!! During rehearsal, Andy didn't sound "raw." They sounded like The Police. Then during the live show, Andy drifted and did his own thing. Then the harsh unPolice-like sound was compounded by the addition of "vocal" guests.

That guitar doesn't exist anymore, or at least Andy should build it up again, as he open it up and used some parts of it for other guitars...I guess the way it was won't come back to his usual status....

First of all I'm glad to see that the list is still alive and kicking! I too hope that this year all our Police related desires will be fulfilled! Let's cross fingers! Thanks to Giovanni for all his precious infos. I bet the "reliable source" must be Mr. Summers himself. ;-))) Giovanni You're always THE BEST! I'm also into guitars and even more basses, Fender ones among others. Apparently Eric Clapton sold this particular Tele to Andy or exchanged it for a Gibson (see the following link http://web.tiscali.it/andatta/fenderpage.htm but I don't know if the source is accurate, for example it mentions Vic Gabriani while the real name would be Vic Garbarini). Clapton himself used to combine various Fender guitar parts, especially from Stratos (see this OFFICIAL site about Blackie http://www.fender.com/blackie/blackie_home.html) So Andy guitar was already modified when he got it from Eric (for example the preamp sticked on the back was already present). At these times Fender wasn't into Custom Shop or Vintage replicas so You had to do it all by yourself. Another example would be John Entwistle from Who and his Fender Precision "Frankenbass" but I degress. I bet that Tele or not Andy will sound "right" if or when a "real" reunion will take place. Don't take the HOF performance into account. People that have followed him during the years of his solo production, especially live, can tell this. Think of it: it took two guitarists (one being Dominic Miller nonetheless) to fill Andy space during "Broken Music Tour". Enough said. YO! I am not sure how old the pictures on andy's site are, but the guitar is still there. Third panel, fourth picture. An if Fender studied the thing for the tele signature that's comming or allready is out... Than what's the complete story on this? Maurizio...I work with Stewart Copeland on his website...and some more...we e-mail each other very frequently....that's why mine is a 'reliable' source...I guess most of you knew about my source. Andy is still a very good friend... And Sting...we spend some time together when he comes to Milan, or if I go somewhere to see him live, but we never talk about music...lately we were talking about friendship. Giovanni
Hi Gio, Just saw an interview with Andy that was done when he was here in Toronto last fall. He does mention the Telecaster briefly. You can watch a bit of the program here: http://www.cbc.ca/thehour/video.php?id=1284 Andy on a reunion: "If it ever comes then sure, get out the telecaster and away we go."
