You very well may be!!! I was just telling Kim that I tried listening to that again with more "mature" ears a couple days ago. Still grates on my nerves like you wouldn't believe! Michelle in TX In a message dated 6/18/04 11:49:00 AM, mtigges@shaw.ca writes:

Well, I can definitely understand, I'll listen to it now ... ah ... so soothing. NOT. But, there is so much emotion in it. If one set out to write a song meant to describe the angst and other emotion you wouldn't do better than it. The way the beat drives the song forward in such a one-dimensional way (like a hot jazz rythem section) is even perfectly suited to the mind-set of the singer. It's just a perfect creation for the intent. And that is why it has made me like it. For sure the first listening to it (20 years ago??? wow!) made me recoil, but I've become familiar to it, and hearing it makes me think of how great a creation it is, and now because of that I enjoy the whole piece. But that said, about a year ago, the last time this was being discussed, I solicited emails about peoples least favourite police/sting tunes. I mentioned I would post the results, I never bothered, for the obvious reason. I put my vote down for "Canary in a Coalmine" so the results were something like this: Votes Song ------------------------------ N-1 Mother 1 Canary in a Coal Mine For N total votes. That's not completely true, there were a couple of other tunes, but Mother was overwhemingly the "winner". Mark.
