The Police were scheduled to play the MTV new unplugged show and then they canceled with not enough time to rehearse the different arrangements etc but they had sounded like they would re-do it later in the tour but I have heard anything since. Anyone else? David L
It sounds like a great chance to gain more exposure for them. On the other hand, maybe Sting doesn't want any more success, huh? On Jan 30, 2008 8:49 AM, David Lucky <dlucky711@yahoo.com> wrote:

I suspect the Unplugged thing isn't going to happen as there has been no mention of it since it was cancelled. Strangely enough, I actually hope it does not come to fruition. My reason for this is that it just doesn't seem like a very Police thing to do. I think the songs would be "Sting-ified" if they were acoustic. Andy's guitar and Stewart's drums are two major reasons why The Police sound like The Police, and neither of those instruments would come across the same way in an acoustic format. To be clear, this isn't a knock on Sting - I love his solo stuff (acoustic stuff included - in particular the two Timothy White Chicago sessions). It is just I feel Sting can be Sting with any musicians he wants...until he is with Andy and Stewart. When he is with those guys, the magic is The Police, and I prefer to keep it that way. That being said, I know if it ever did happen that the CD would be stuck in my player for months on end - despite my ideals, I would never be able to resist anything new (or even semi-new) from they boys! One of the fans talked to Andy about the Unplugged at his recent book signing in LA. In her report on the conversation, it seemed like he didn't remember the Unplugged AT ALL. She had to remind him about it. So it doesn't sound like it's in their plans. ...which is kind of a shame, because I'd heard some really interesting things from someone in the tour organization about what they were planning for it back during the summer before it got postponed/ cancelled. Like that they were going to have a choir involved, and a percussionist/percussion session as Stewart was going to play bass instead(!!!) sockii

Same thing that I heard; for what I knew the choir was the gay choir of San Francisco, I don't know about the percussionist, and yes, Stewart should have played the bass in some tracks... Giovanni

Wow, now I'm REALLY glad they didnt do this! A choir, Stewart on bass, and a percussionist to replace Stewart on drums!?!? Ahh...no thanks. Also, if this was truly the plan, that explains why it didn't happen - they had no time to rehearse for something like that. When I was in Aahrus backstage with Stewart, we talked about it, but it doesn't seem like the band was definitely into working on it at that time; he had no answer concerning when the show would have happened, but that was late August, I don't know whether they rescheduled it or not; they didn't sound excited about the idea anyway.
