Re: Moon Over Bourbon Street - Cornelius Mix
Hi all, I bought the CD single yesterday, with "Moon..." as a b-side. I liked the brief sample of it that was released a while back, but that arrangement becomes less interesting when you hear the whole song done that way. I've tried to analyse why, and I think it comes down to the fact that, unless my ears deceive me, there's no vestige of the original tune in the instrumental part at all. The marvellous, growly vocals carry it on, yes, but the result feels like someone's pasted the vocals on top of an unrelated and uninteresting hodge-podge of samples. Even when Sting radically re-arranged songs like "All This Time" and "Brand New Day" for the live album, he did so by interweaving old fragments of the tunes in with new instruments and riffs. The result was that the songs still felt like themselves, albiet in new duds....
