Re: [Police] The Police Anthology
I agree, but if they were smart, they would have put ONE new thing on there (or hard to get) that would have probably had me buy it despite the rehash... m in tx In a message dated 5/23/07 11:02:03 AM, ginasupercat@hotmail.com writes:
I think it's more a question of who this compilation is for: my guess? People who may have not heard of the Police and just may be getting into them because of this tour and thereby they have a greatest hits cd, newly released to catch the attention of potentially new fans (it marketing, shiny new package will get more attention than the previously released greatest hits), as sort of a guideline for the tour. I do not thing for a second that this is for us...I think that will come later :)

But if you're going to make it interesting, then you might as well throw on some rarities and early/proto-Police stuff like, say, a live Strontium 90 track or some Eberhard Schoener stuff (yeah, I know, copyright issues for the latter, probably) which, I understand, is often attributed specifically to the Police by casual listeners anyway. That would make it a good in-between buy for people curious about the lesser-known obscure stuff, yet there'd still be enough poppy hits to make sure that they'd feel they were also buying something they knew they'd definitely enjoy. Or, and I like this better by far, go the whole hog and put everything vaguely Police-related onto a REAL anthology, including all those tracks that were missed out of Message in a Box. And update the book to reflect the band's place in popular culture and influence on music, and stuff like their solo careers, their books, the film, and the reunion. Make it the definitive Police product and then, for the love of God, don't release anything else unless the boys actually record new material! If after years of wrangling with Courtney Love, there can be a definitive Nirvana box set (When The Lights Go Out), then surely the Police could get the same now that things are all sweetness and light. I'm going to need one of those cold showers too, now... geez. Ang Create the ultimate e-mail address book. Import your contacts to Windows Live Hotmail.
