Review of Fiction Plane in Montreal
First off, i would like to tell you guys that i had a fun last night. Actually, it was my longtime girlfriend who had the delightful surprise not knowing who was opening for Mathew Good who gave pretty good show if i might add. She flipped when i bought Fiction Planes CD at the t-shirt booth ... Saying in the likes "Are you joking me!!" with a huge smile across her face. It was pretty fantastic, i saw Joe looking at the stage all alone as i aproached him to say hello and show him my apreciation of the band, he was delighted to know that there were fans also on canadian soil.It was a brief conversation since it was hard to get the right questions out of my mouth and avoiding to say something stupid ... I am a very very shy guy so it was hard. My girlfriend could not aproach caus she is worse than me, but anyways We shook hands saying we'd meet after the show at the t-shirt counter and sign some CDs. He was very humble and nice. THE SHOW: They were first to play, i was amazed to know that they handled the tuning of their own equipment and not the roadies ... If they had any? They step onstage with enthousiam and delight with Joe saying that he was happy to be playing here, first time around. They played songs mostly from the new album to name a few: -Everything will never be OK -Hate -Real Real -Cigarette -Sickness They spoke alot between songs and jumped alot on stage, i was in heaven ... Sorry for the expression but they kicked serious ass!! The new drummer was really hammering the songs like a pro, Joe was really playing with passion and jumping around the stage like a young Sting once was, Dan was very social also with the public saying that he was delighted by the publics response, Seton was also in his game and played some good guitar. They left the stage very happy and i was about their performance ... Too bad it was short. But i told Joe that next time they come, they would have to play Silence which is one of my favorite off both albums... He looked at me saying that this one was a tough one to sing but he would consider it ... I thanked them all and told them i really apreciated the show, they were all nice. Hope this review helped, do not miss their shows they will become something great ... Joe definitely has his dad's charisma and he will rule the charts with his buddies! Beware! p.s: Amaryll, please contact me if you want more details, unfortunately it was hard to get a camera in. Cheers, Kinetic Kid __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Hello Gang, Is anyone else going to be going to the Fiction Plane show at the Horseshoe Tavern Tomorrow night? Same place Joe's dad played to about 14 people in the late 70's! It's not listed on their website (the bar's that is) so I double checked by phone and they are the first act to go on and are supposed to play at 9:15pm sharp. May find the band before the show, but will probably get a chance to chat with them after the show. Anyway, I'll be there nice and early.... tall guy, glasses, wearing an Oysterhead t-shirt... just to be funny! Well, it was either that or a Tragicalliy Hip shirt? Cheers David
Hello Everyone, I don't write often, but I read all the incoming messages and occasionally I feel I need to say something - and tonight is one of those times. I just got back from the Horseshoe Tavern here in Toronto after having seen Fiction Plane perform. Wow! These guys were AMAZING. Twenty-four years to the day after The Police played CBGB's in New York, I got to see Fiction Plane play at what I think is probably Toronto's equivalent of CBGB's - The Horseshoe Bar and Tavern. Very cool. I spoke with Joe and Seton briefly before and after the show - very nice guys. The band played a single set of just 1/2 hour (there are a number of bands playing tonight) and they rocked. Their energy on stage was unbelievable, the songs were fantastic, they are very talented musicians, they played a very tight set, and I think they are even better live than on CD. Anyone who has seen them live knows this already, I guess, but I think you have to see it to believe it. Anyway, I thoroughly enjoyed the show, and urge anyone who has the opportunity to see Fiction Plane on this tour to take any chance they have to do so - you won't regret it. For those of you in the Toronto area who could not make it to the show tonight, I asked Joe if they were coming back here on this tour again and he said they will be coming back sometime after the album is released (Everything Will Never Be OK has not been released in Canada yet). To David Hopper - I have not met you in person before, and I did not get your e-mails until just now, otherwise I would have looked out for you and introduced myself - sorry!
