Personally, I don't think U2 has recorded a great album since Achtung Baby, maybe Zooropa... I feel like their latest albums have been re-treads and just plain boring.
Well, Ok. That's a personal taste issue I guess. I would suggest there are some classic songs in there from the past 15 years. More to the point, U2 *have* been releasing albums that have sold well, and have been well received both by critics and with (say) Grammy awards. So the gist if what I'm trying to say, that to be the "Greatest Band In The World", you must be putting out NEW music of note, is still true I believe.
For me The Police tour is all I ever wanted out of them. Who knows, maybe this experience will revitalize Sting's creative juices... but based on Sting's solo career over the last 10 years I'm kind of afraid of what a new Police album would sound like.
A fair point. I don't *expect* them to record an album, and the tour is a welcome surprise and all I can expect as well. But, I tend to disagree that a new Police album would be a bad thing. In fact, if done right, it could be the VERY THING that rock music could use right about now. Personally, I'd be very interested to hear what a The Police album sounds like after a 25 year break between recordings. I think it would be an unprecedented gap between albums that *could* lead to a worthy album number six. I hope they at least TRY to record something in the studio at some point. Dan
What an interesting point of view. I can see the headline now: "The Police: Saviors of the Modern Rock World" On 6/24/07, Dan Eliot <dan@u2source.com> wrote:
