RE: [Police] weird emails
If you're getting empty emails with old subjects lines, DO NOT OPEN. It's a worm virus. Norton Antivirus 2002 detected it on my system but could not kill it. As a general rule, if the attached file has two extensions (e.g. "filename.doc.scr") there's a good chance it's a virus. If you've opened the file, there's also a good chance this worm will have forwarded itself to people in you address book or replied to old emails. It seems to be harmless -- it just generates extra email clutter. -----Original Message----- From: whitepio@smbsd.k12.ca.us [mailto:whitepio@smbsd.k12.ca.us] Sent: Wednesday, November 28, 2001 11:55 AM To: Police Subject: [Police] weird emails I don't have the duplication problem, but I have another weird email occurrence. I'm getting "empty" emails from people on the list. Old email titles (like Sting Going to Madonna's Wedding) from list folks with no text or anything when the emails are opened. Is this linked to the virus? Is anyone else getting these? Maggie
according to the info on this URL i sent to the list about this virus, it can provide a window into your computer that breaches your computer's security and allows the person to get access to your passwords etc. i don't really know anythign about these viruses, but the one that is going out over this list fits the badtrans virus described at this website. http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.badtrans.b@mm.ht ml on 11/28/01 12:06 PM, Fred Berthelot at F.Berthelot@ramsa.com wrote:
