Skeptically, I went to see Fiction Plane on Thursday at the Mercury Lounge. I know that the apple doesn't fall far from the tree but I really wanted this band to prove how good it is, aside from its "association" with Sting. I should have deduced from the fact that they carried their own instruments, set up their gear, schmoozed with some of the audience, etc. that Joe and his bandmates are really going it their own way, rather than having "dad's" connections pave the way for them. To boot, I saw them actually carrying their gear out of the club too. Bottom Line: I am a true believer. I was impressed. The were extremely tight, their sound was far better than what I heard on some downloads, and most importantly they're real musicians. They're not of the three chord chump variety (read: System of a Down or any other crap like that), that have hi-jacked radio the last few years. THEY CAN PLAY! They are an original band... Thank God! I also got a kick out of hearing Joe hit some high notes on a few songs. Closing my eyes, it was very easy to imagine that I was at CBGB's, back in 1979 hearing a fledgling band from England. I highly recommend seeing these guys live! -----Original Message----- From: amaryll To: police@mailman.xmission.com Sent: 4/5/03 8:57 AM Subject: [Police] a little quiz! if you like anagrams, here's one for you!
