Re: R: [Police] dvd / Stewart new cd cover
Let me preface this by saying that I would LOVE to see the release of some Police DVDs, Live albums of old tours... pretty much whatever. I would kill for some new material from them. I would be first in line to snap it all up. That said, I believe it was Marlon Brando (but maybe not... I don't know - could have been Russel Crowe for all I know) who said "The only thing that I owe the public is a good performance." Discussion? I think Sting has certainly given the world a whole bunch of great performances over the years, both recoreded and live. He's certainly held up that end of the bargain, in my mind. Perhaps he's just getting too old and comfortable to want to deal with the "early days" any more? (Not that I necesarily agree with this, mind you... I would love to see some new stuff. Or even a new album from him that could stand up to his earlier work.) What does everyone else think? Does he actually "owe" the world what we want? Or is it legitamately up to him to decide what he does? -Tim

I guess we got to understand that sometimes artists are human as well; we would love to have everything they taped, everything that was filmed, everything and everything....but how many things we would not show of ourselves? When Stewart told me about the dvd, what it would contains, I would pay $$$$$ to have it, as seeing the Police in their first instore appearance with ten fans going and with the three guys in the band overexcited because it's their first signing session, I guess it's cool for all of us, but what about them?

Of course it's entirely upto him what he gives us (well, ultimately the record company, but depending on his publishing rights I guess he has control over it too...) However, the sad fact is, and really, god forbid, when he pops it, you won't have enough room in the house to store all the stuff the record company will release. Same with every artist who croaks - see how long it takes before the shelves are stocked full of 'greatest hits' (like that's the last thing we need, another Police greatest hits!), or unreleased material... Roy Orbison, Elvis, Nina Simone, Johnny Cash, George Harrison, Ian Dury, etc. etc..... Ok, ok, not all my musical taste, but it's almost like the record companies are counting their lucky (or unlucky rather) stars when someone dies... Immediate cash boost. Sad, but tell me it's not true. J.
