Re: [Police] Magazine special editions
Hi, If this message comes much later than the discussion began, it's because I still can't receive individual emails from this list, despite having selected that option when I signed up. Anyway, I've also been wishing some magazine would do a special edition on The Police and their various solo efforts, but I don't think it's likely. Generally my impression is that for some reason, they don't get the same level of interest or respect in specialist magazines as other comparable acts, so I suspect we may have to content ourselves with the odd article. The closest thing I can think of is the big feature Uncut magazine did a couple of years ago about the band and its disintegration, and if you don't already have that, I'd recommend contacting their back issues dept. as it makes for very interesting reading. About bodyguards, well, sometime it comes from the venue or the promoter of the night, they decide about. Sting usually doesn't have bodyguards in fact. Giovanni

I was talking to someone who is in PR who went to a Sting concert in NYC last week. Apparently it was a charity gig to fund some specific charity - details a bit sketchy but tree seeds (and organic fertilizers)related. It was an intimate acoustic set and $2500 a plate type gig. Sounded interesting. According to her Sting is known to be a little difficult to approach as he keeps his distance and tends to doges publicity type. But she was able to get through a few bodyguards and when one was grabbed her apparently Sting interjected and she got to chat with him for a few minutes. I have always read Sting doesnt use bodyguards much but thats what she told me anyway. Thought our board might find it interesting. I didnt hear/read anything about this concert and it was right hear in NYC last week, anyone else?
David

Hi there Today I've added some tracks on the Listing Player (3 gems of the last Ghost in the Machine Tour, and a never heard demo version of Sting's "We'll be together"). You can listen to 18 rare songs, great live versions or unreleased tracks. If you have request for other songs to put there, you can send an Email.
I open a little contest for this occasion Go to Listing website : http://listing.free.fr In the "Game" section, try the quizz. If you manage to complete the three levels, you'll reach something... Tell me what it is, and if you are in the first three to Email me, I offer you a copy of the show you want from my list... Don't waste a minute !

How cool would it be if Mojo/Q or uncut magazines gave The Police and Sting the special magazine treatment. I buy these all the time as they are great collections of pictures and interviews, and stories on on single artists or movements. I think they are generally called Special Editions. Anyway, I just got one of the Clash and there has been some on major artists like Bowie, Zep, Beatles, oasis, Clapton, Springsteen, Neil Young, etc. Why do I get the feeling there is no chance one on Police and Sting will be coming out. Now admittedly there probably needs to be a new material tie-in - like Springsteens 30th anniv born to run etc. Although the Clash magazine edition one just came out this month and I havent seen any new product for them in about a year or so.
Anyone else see these special edition magazines by Uncut/Mojo etc..

Hi !
Before I spend too much money on this:
would anybody be interested (the slightest bit) in a website which analyzes the POLICE's UK singles?
I would like to invest some time and money to build such a website. I intend to show all the different aspects Jörg Zimmermann already listed in his book TRUTH HITS EVERYBODY. Plus coloured pictures! This would mean a site for nerds: showing label differences, different sleeves, small or large or press out center holes and other veeery important stuff.
If it's fun and not too expensive this could continue by showing other rare records from around the world - or tickets and other memorabilia...
Please send me a mail if you would consider looking at such a site every now and then...
thanks, Dietmar
