Re: [Police] re: 300 + emails...
Hello all, I am Doreliz. I am from Austin, TX. I just signed up for this mailing list a couple of weeks ago. A cool dude named David who is part of a myspace group called "Sting & The Police" posted information about the possibility of a reunion and offered up this link so we could sign up for this mailing list if we wanted. I'm glad I did. You guys find the coolest stuff and the best part is that you share it! I thank you for that! I've seen Sting 3 times in concert but of course never The Police. By the time they broke up I was a toddler and didn't come to know their music or become a fan until I was in my teens. Anyway...this is all very exciting and I can't wait for them to announce tour dates. I will be one of the first in line to buy my tickets and will fly somewhere if I need to! I used to be a member of the Sting fan club that Tina, Dave & Wendy maintained but when it came time to renew I could not afford it and I feel like I'm out of the loop. I still get their newsletter which is cool but I want access to all the cool stuff again! Oh well..one of these days. I did meet some cool people on the message boards and a few of us met up before and after one of his concerts...it was fun! Anyway...thanks again! Hey Jen, Kudos to you for reading them all! We're back to the usual trickle of emails, along w/lots of anxiety (for me, anyway.) Hope to meet you at a POLICE concert! michelle (in uh, TX) (pick up on that one in your readings?) I've been--obviously--putting off reading them, although I knew what they were about; mostly because I dared not believe it, but partly because I knew eventually the hype would die down and I wouldn't get caught up in the emotional roller coaster. But What A Ride!!! I also have been a member for years, lurking constantly in the background, selfishly gleaning information from your willing, often eager emails. My fondest memories from this list include meeting Jeremy, Deb, Bill, Maggie, Ross & Fred; picking Ross up from the airport having never personally met him (against my now EX-husband's wishes); meeting in Irvine then driving to 'Vegas with four friends I hadn't met yet except on the list (J, D, B & M) to see Sting at the MGM without anything but the clothes on my back and a credit card, sharing a room with these wonderful people, counseling a new friend on her complicated but promising relationship, seeing Michael Jordan gamble more $$ in one hand than my ex made in one year; flying to Houston on a 24-hr turnaround for front row seats and staying with J&D; sharing photos and laughs with all of them for weeks after. This list anchored my love for a man and his music that I had harbored without external support from most friends and family, bringing it into the light without shame. I thank you all, especially Jeremy, Deb, Bill, Maggie, Ross & Fred. And I sit here now still reeling from the possibility, no matter how implausible or insane, of my favorite band of all time that I never saw in person--although I am old enough to have seen every concert they ever did but too sheltered (and quite frankly too stupid to make the effort to go!) at the time--getting together once again if only for a brief moment in a world-wide tour... although I too have fantasized about the following, still: I do not care if they suck. I do not care what songs they play. I do not care if every song sounds completely different from what I've been listening to for 30 years. I will be in the presence of a historical moment, of an artistic "big bang", and I will be enthralled, enamored, and enthusiastic with every strum, pick, strike, note, scream. It will be a moment I will never, ever forget. Having said that, I honestly didn't believe it would happen until I read Sting's comments. Now, the impossible has become the improbable. Welcome on board; my name is Giovanni and I write from Italy; it's good to see new names on this list; we're all very enthusiastic about all things Police and the three members, and this year we will witness their return on stage, isn't that amazing? I try to be helpful with the news I can get from the three members as I run www.stewartcopeland.net (Stewart gets me updated); if you like, you can also join Stewart forum on the website, it's free. At the same time I'm anyway a proud member of Sting.com Welcome.
