Huh. Wow, what a glowing endorsement! Anybody else care to weigh in? I mean, Bill's exuberance kind of has me thinking I might actually give Sting some more of my money (or his record company, anyway). David [Man in a Suitcase] On Tue, Jul 20, 2010 at 10:46 PM, <BBredice@aol.com> wrote:

Not sure, I wonder if getting the full japanese version will just be simpler in the long run.... then again, I can pop down to the store and pick up the normal version. Really, I just want to listen to it and see if I like it first, but that involves breaking my "no piracy of the Police unless it's bootlegged" policy. I am pleasantly surprised by this CD as well and the song selection has a lot to do with it. The album is billed as a symphonic "greatest hits" but it's anything but. Of the 15 songs, there are only 4 greatest hits. Ironically, with the exception of Next to you, the greatest hits are my least favorite songs on the album, either because they're not different enough or I'm just plain tired of them. I could have done without those and Whenever I Say Your Name, which needed a major overhaul to warrant being on the album. I think there would have been some much better contenders like Children's Crusade, The Lazarus Heart, Jeremiah Blues, Saint Augustine in Hell, Inside, The Book of My Life... That being said, I'm so glad to see Sting dig deep in his catalogue. The inclusion of b-sides and lesser known songs is very welcomed. It's unfortunate that he feels the need to keep the album tight and trim off gems like I Burn for You and Why Should I Cry for You, but I'm still happy they're there. I also miss some of the other songs from the live show such as Russians, Moon Over Bourbon Street etc... But in the end it's a nice album that's more accessible than the previous two. It also makes me wonder what direction he will take with his next studio album (if he ever writes one.) I like the fact that he's been moving away from sampling, drum loops and other electronic flare on these last three albums. And I also like the fact that he's acknowledging his better, if not more popular songs. I haven't lost my faith... Agree with everything you said...with one minor exception. "Whenever I Say" reminds me of the Portland show I went to where Jo was giving me smiles (probably because I was sitting in 1 seat with 2 kids crammed on my lap right in front of her), so I'm happy to have the song released for my own selfish reasons. She is very easy on the eyes. I just love this CD. Just came home from the Toronto show that finished an hour ago. Wow. Wow!!!! WOW!!!!!! Truly incredible. I am at a loss for words I dont remember seeing Sting so relaxed and having so much fun. I cant believe how much he talked between songs and the music my God it was amazing. Straight to My Heart, Moon Over Bourbon Street, End of the Game, Why Should I Cry for You? were all highlights for me...and King of Pain too possibly the best song of the night!!!! I never thought I would say that! I just cant believe how well those songs worked with the symphonic arrangement. I am regretting my decision to be fiscally prudent, and for once, only going to one show. I also made the decision to go to just one show based on my initial feelings that this album was a bad idea and was just another thing Sting was doing because he has no new material at the moment. Well, I must say, I mis-underestimated (hasnt someone said that before?) Mr. Sting. If you are someone who decided to give this tour a pass and I totally understand why you made that decision, because I was very close to doing the same thing I highly recommend reconsidering. It was a fabulous night. If you like Stings music, you wont be disappointed.
