Re: [Police] Alternate reality
Funny, Kim... when I emailed my sister w/the link to the rumour, my subject line was "Yes... Hell has frozen over!" Here I go, kinda OT: Had my own dose of alternate reality last night. My 8 year old went to her first "real" concert w/4 other little screamers (or if you're following the "to do" on sting.com, they'd be ankle biters....) A friend took the girls to see the Cheetah Girls, and I wasn't there (have to save my money for MY shows!). After all the excitement of finding the "perfect" outfit, getting ready, going to dinner, they ended up in a car accident. Nothing brings you down from the Police high faster than a phone call from your friend beginnig with "Everything's OK, but..." As much as this concert talk makes me want to throw up, this ripped me to shreds. Paige was crying, I was trying to calm her down on the phone. Turns out part of it was that they were going to be late for the Cheetah Girls. That's my girl! All is well, the car that hit them was totaled, they only missed the opener. Thank God for giant suburbans in Texas. Here she was a on a "big girl" outing, and all she wanted was her mom. Making me think twice about any travels abroad just to follow a band (OK, OK, I know I'm wrong there, but I have to keep telling myself that to try to hold it together!) May just be looking at US dates at this point. I'm sure I'll be over the fear of the road in a week, but that's where I am right now. It's a good day, my baby's home and happy! michelle In a message dated 1/6/07 12:45:46 PM, TaoofKim@aol.com writes:
Hi everybody! I have to say it is so nice to have the list active and happy for the first time in a very long while. :) I've also been a member for a long time (eight years? ten? who can remember?) but I mostly lurk in the background. However, I wanted to say that I have to agree with David. I saw Sting at the New Orleans Jazz Fest a few years ago and it just sucked. I mean Sting was as great as ever but I couldn't get anywhere close enough to really see him and watched most of the concert on the big screen, that is when the drunk college students in front of me didn't have their girlfriends on their shoulders. I felt like I was stuck in a wasteland where the only time the crowd really cheered was when something "popular" was played. They weren't really fans and it drove me crazy to be stuck in the middle of them. I wanted to yell at them to shut up and LISTEN! But that wouldn't have been very nice and may have gotten my ass kicked, (you never know in New Orleans!) No I would prefer just them and an opening band for my $. Also, I have been very skeptical about these reunion rumors. I just keep trying to imagine Sting agreeing and instead see him talking about nostalgia and sentimentality. BUT I am seriously beginning to think that I am living in an alternate reality, because yesterday I heard three reputable football experts (Jimmy Johnson, Terry Bradshaw and Dan Marino) pick the New Orleans Saints to go to the Superbowl. Never thought I'd hear that after 30+ years of being a fan. Ssshhhh....What's that sound? Is that the sound of hell actually freezing over??? Maybe the Police will reunite for a tour after all. At this point I'm thinking anything is possible. Keep up the fun posts everybody and a special thanks to Giovanni for his impeccable info. KIM P. S. Hello to Michelle in Texas. I read your posts and just go DITTO! You crack me up girl!
